2014 scion xb - failed oil consumption test
My 2014 Scion XB failed the oil consumption test. I am at 133,000 miles Repair will be done under warranty...Dealership is telling me the repair is piston, rings and associated gaskets. They have sent me a list of other repairs they would recommend as well which are not covered under warranty....Has anyone had the pistons and rings repair done and what have your results been?
Other repairs were serpentine belt and Tensioner assembly + water pump (there is some rust/slight leak) and thermostat replacement. A few others were on the list but I am not planning on doing those due to the cost and or not having issues with these that I am aware of
oil pump $380
Valve stem seals $2000
Balance shaft bearings $500
Any feedback with your experience would be appreciated.
PS In the next couple of months I plan to turn this car over to my daughter who is a junior in college and won't be driving very much

Had mine done years ago at 140K, I'm at 219K now, and it worked great. Haven't had any issues since. I ignored all the add-ons they suggested and haven't seen any problems from it. Most of the add-ons were the same ones you have listed minus the water pump since mine is an 08 that had the defective water pump seals so it was replaced under warranty years before. As for the pulley and belt they'll need replacing at some point but my pulley did start to wear out until about 200K miles. And it lets you know when it starts wearing as you'll hear squealing.
