Rattling noise in the cold
I'm having trouble identifying the source of a noise and I am hoping someone may have had the same or similar issue.
The noise can only be heard when it is cold out (approximately below freezing). The noise is not constant, it occurs only when the vehicle is experiencing a small (or even large) amount of vibration. This usually happens when coming out of first gear, transitioning gears, a rough idle, a bump in the road ect.
The noise is a very loud and harsh rattling. It sounds as though it is either coming from inside the dash near the drivers side or somewhere under the hood. It sounds almost as if something is loose and vibrating rapidly.
Again you hear nothing when its warm out, everything sounds fine.
Any ideas? Thanks!

could it be the infamous windshield creak...?
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sci...eking*-194743/
details and solution on that thread.
i also get this noise once in a while when it's really cold out. it's a rattling that's coming from the top/front of the car and may be this windshield creak issue. i'm just lazy and never looked into it bc it only happens a handful of times per year...

Thanks for the reply and the info.
"could it be the infamous windshield creak...?"
Based on the descriptions of the "creak" I don't think that's it. This is distinctly a rattling that starts very loud and then fades out to nothing as the vibrations from the engine level out.
I always here this when taking off from a complete stop but won't here it at all going down the highway.
Going to see if I can create a video of the sound today.
