Default Are Wheel Adapters safe??

Are they?? i ask these because i have a set of 5x100 ASA wheels laying around that came off of my fiances old Jetta. YES, I've searched & all I seen were responses like "get other wheels" "don't do it", but not a clear answer as to why or why not??
I see quite a few posts about spacers & people don't seem to deem them not safe & i really don't see they difference between spacers & adapters I mean they both bolt onto the stock hub and I would think add stress to the wheel bearings.

But adapters just allow you to change bolt pattern... right?? Or am I wrong to say this?? Help please

They're safe, if you install them correctly.

But if I were you, I'd flip those wheels and get better ones in 5x114.3.

There are people running adapters just fine. Just make sure the bolts are torqued down to factory spec. On my 89 Celica I'm running an H&R 25mm adapter for the rear so the wheels clear the struts. Everything has been holding up well so far. There could be 5x114.3 to 5x100 adapters available, just need to search. Keep in mind bolt pattern adapters are at least 15mm thick but I think 25mm is more common, and the wheels will be pushed out that much. I don't know the specs of the ASA wheels you have, they might work with an adapter that size, the reason most people are saying pass is that the wheel selection with a 5x114.3 pattern is a lot better. Just look at VRwheels and MemoryFab for wheels and you'll find a nice fitting wheel that bolts right up, and it'll be baller wheels at maybe 1/2 the cost dependent on what you choose. A wider wheel in a proper offset filling up the fenderwell looks better than a OEM width wheel pushed out to the fender.

reading many reviews, there is a very very small percentage of something going wrong, but most of the cases, it is safe. I am running spacers all around and had no problem for months. People who even race use spacers and did not have a problem. Actually, their handlings improved.
It would be fine, but like others said, insert them and torque them correctly. Also, make sure to get hubcentrics, but i don't know if converting adapters are hubcentric or not.
I could go more into detail, but overall, they are safe

I was going to do it on the wife's xB so I could throw my old Enkei Super 7's on but I could not find anyone that made 5x114.3 to 5x100 adapters...I even went through one of the vendors on here (Dan @ Assault Tech) and he made a bunch of calls and did not have any luck...I ended up selling the Super 7's and got the correct bolt pattern to make it easy on myself...They make a ton for 5x100 to 5x114.3 though...

Thanks for the replies guys! Ive searched memoryfab & other JDM wheel sites, but I just figured a few hundred for adapters would be cheapest. I haven't calculated any measurements yet, but the
ASA wheels are 17x7 +35 offset & I already have 215/45 tires on them. And the spacers I've found are 19mm thick on this site... http://www.motorsport-tech.com/ and they have 5x114-5x100

I'm not fully committed yet, but ill see how it goes. here's the ASAs

Once it all said and done and the spacers are on the final offset would be +16 for your 17x7 wheel. I don't know how agressive of fitment are being run on xB2, you might have to fender roll, IDK if your car is lowered or plan to.

That's cool FatBoy that you were able to find some...I priced a set just to see how much they ran and by the time it was said and done it was over $300...Ouch...Good luck and let us know how it turns out for ya...
