Default Rust found on some Scion xB doors

OK guys have been finding rust on our cars.. on the doors Corners under the rubber weather striping on the XB Models.. So check your cars.. This is an area where normal owners never bother to wipe or look under..

How to Check.. Take only a Second to do. Just open up your doors and on the window corners where the point is... youll notice the door seal.. just lift up that cornor and take a look and cross your fingers you dont find rust..

Hopefully if it is not just on a few cars, so we can push for a recall on the doors.. this is on a car that only a few months old.. you should see those that are older than a year!!

If you car does have this rust inthe same spot please contact your Scion Dealership ASAP. and write to Scion Corp.. the more people that compaline the better chance of getting this issue fixed the right way and not by just touch up paint..

Here is the topic that been going on in the Hawaii section..

Not every car has rust. I live in Florida, and my xB have survived multiple huurricanes over two years, and I don't have any rust.

I have owned many cars and this is the first time I am seeing that on cars that are not even past the warranty and only a few months old rust has been poping up... I can understand if the car was 5 years old to find rust but on a brand new car that is uncalled for.

Shouldn't that be under the paint warranty???

Maybe we should sticky this and narrow down the field. Because right now there is just to many variables, so it is hard to put the blame on Scion/Toyota. Not discrediting you 808 I know you are a forealz cat on SL. But now people on here are just gonna say it's because of the weather in Hawaii, or its because you life on an island, things of that nature! The more people come forward from different area's the more ammo we will have for Scion to look at. Just my $0.02.

i agree with Marshall, I have lived in Hawaii all my life and rust like this is far from being normal. BTW the pictures are of my xb. I took a look at my car after another member with a 06' xb complained he had rust. All my other cars that i owned never had rust form like this. But please take a look on your doors.

I'll check my car after work.

Don't we have a warranty against rust/corrosion?

EDIT: From the "Owner's Warranty Information" Booklet at Scion.com (http://www.scion.com/assets/media/pd...arranty_04.pdf)

Corrosion Perforation Warranty
This warranty covers repair or replacement of any original body
panel that develops perforation from corrosion (rust-through),
subject to the exceptions indicated under “What Is Not Covered”
on pages 11–12.
Coverage is for 60 months, regardless of mileage.
For information on how to protect your vehicle from corrosion,
see the section entitled “Corrosion Prevention and Appearance

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
This warranty does not cover damage or failures resulting
directly or indirectly from any of the following:
› Fire, accidents or theft
› Abuse or negligence
› Misuse — for example, racing or overloading
› Improper repairs
› Alteration or tampering, including installation of non-Scion
Authorized Accessories
› Lack of or improper maintenance, including use of fluids
other than those specified in the Owner’s Manual
› Installation of non-Scion Authorized Parts
› Airborne chemicals, tree sap, road debris (including stone
chips), rail dust, salt, hail, floods, wind storms, lightning and
other environmental conditions
› Water contamination

Anyone care to translate?

Just checked my 2006 xB and it looks ok but I can see how it could be a problem if you got sand in there or flexed the door too much - the joint has sharp edges of metal butted together which could wear through the painted surface and expose bare metal.

Relax, it should all be under warranty. This is why there is a warranty. There might be just an issue with the lots that got sent to your region, who knows. Also, if Toyota sees a trend, for instance, 15 XB's from the same area getting the same warranty repair in a week, they will investigate. This is the most consumer centric company on the planet.

For those that have experienced this, did any of you buy the environmental package?

I park under trees and drive in an area that uses a lot of salt in the winter, so I elected to spend the $700 for the environmental package. I'd be curious to hear if this rusting has occurred with or without the add-on.

lol, I gotta bridge.

anyway, the rust through warranty means you have to be able to see through the door panel before you can have it fixed. This has to happen within 5 years and you have to live in a place without tree sap, air polution or salt or an environment.

In short, Toyota's not going to help you (us). Heck, just for finding it they'll say you "tampered" and caused it! :D

This is the most consumer centric company on the planet.
I've been around this forum and others long enough to know this isn't true. Besides, you're kinda at the dealer's mercy, if you start there.

this sounds like a dealer specific option and not something that would be uniformly comparable across all cars- most dealers offer things like this but all are different in their makeup and practicality.

I just got back from the dealership... I loked at the all the models and the XB is the only one with that open seam... and there Demo cars had the same problem..

Im just trying to narrow this down to if this prob pretains to only Hawaii from shipping the car over the ocean and the salt spray from shipping was the cuase... I kow for sure that my BSP or the Black Widow XB doent have the rust but many other in hawaii have been finding this problem...
