Default Steering Wheel Controls w/ Aftermarket HU

I have an Eclipse single DIN HU (cd8445) installed and I'm using the steering wheel controls straight out of the box with NO ADAPTOR.

I know that the single DIN 8Volt HU's (2005) models's have this function along with the double DIN's.

I'm not certain about the 5Volt models but you can verify by consulting your manual. In the back where it shows the various connection diagrams. IF YOU HAVE 2 BROWN WIRES ( one solid and one with a black stripe ) IT WILL INDICATE IN THE DAIGRAM THESE ARE FOR REMOTE STEERING CONTROLS.

If you in fact have these two wires, here's all you have to do to enable your steering wheel audio controls.

There are 3 plugs in back of the factory radio, 2 of which connect to the aftermarket harness. The third is the factory harness for the steering wheel controls. There are several different wires in this harness but only 3 are of concern.

The ORANGE wire is ground. I used a T-Tap quick connect and ran a short piece of speaker wire. I tapped into the orange wire and connected it to the ground connection for the HU.

Next up is the PINK wire. This one get's the BROWN/BLACK wire. Again, I used a T-Tap to tap the pink wire and put a male insulated spade connector on the Brn/Blk wire to make the connection.

The last wire is GREEN, connect the BROWN wire using the same technique as above.

When you power on the HU the steering wheel buttons will funtion just as they did with the factory radio. Volume, Channel/Track and Mode. They will also illuminate.

On the channel/track button i found if you have station presets saved, if you press the button once is will tune to the next channel. If you hold either up or down button for a second it will beep and go to the next saved station in either direction.

UPDATE!!!!

At least for my HU, the AVN-5435, the Steering wheel interface DOES directly plug in using a harness that comes with the HU.

Page one has inventory of what all comes in the box includes a reference to a Harness for Video/Audio In and Steering Controls. I dug in the box further and found it. The AV inputs and the steering wheel control harness. I took it outside, went to try it out and it plugs directly to the HU in the 2nd connector from the right (while looking directly at the back of the HU) and it also accepts the Steering control connector directly. I hooked everything up, tested out my Controls, and BAM! Works like a champ.

Just an FYI- the UPDATE on the AVN-5435 was from me. WDS merged it into this so we'd have an end all be all of SWC confusion like gjpjr84 said. If you don't have the harness like I found, then you now know how to manually hook it up and its all in one thread.
And gjpjr84, I never noticed until now that the clown moves. I almost punched my screen when I saw it.

Does the Older Eclipse 8443 have an input for factory steering controls or is it only 2005 models?

I'm not sure about the 8443. check the schematic in the back of the manual. If you have the two brown wires on the HU harness then yes, you can connect them and have functioning steering wheel controls.

Fugitsu Ten is a owned by Toyota so I guess it makes sense that the inputs would be the same.

Not necessarily. Here's a wiring diagram of the 2454:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...ffe39038a0cade

Note that it doesn't have the aforementioned brown wires. I've already asked Eclipse about this. Early 2454s will not work with the radio controls.

this might be a stupid question but does that mean the late 2454's should work?

is there a difference from the 2454 and the 5435? i like the way the 2454 looks but another few hundred and it will just get me the newer model

+1

Nothing on the AVN5495 is a direct plug-in with the exception of the antenna (2006 tC). You'll need to hardwire the unit into your existing harness.
