Default Haolebuilt II build thread

Aloha, some of you may be familiar with my 2006 xB build, Haolebuilt. I sold that ride in July and have started on my next build, Haolebuilt II. It's my 2012 Scion iQ. I will be posting up the progress in this thread. If you have any questions about the products, sponsors or installations please feel free to ask.

This was Haolebuilt I

This is my new 2012 Scion iQ that I bought from Scion of Glendora...

Hector and Michael handing me the key after I bought the iQ.

Denis Ruiz and I closing the deal at Scion of Glendora...

After waiting over 14 months for the iQ it's finally at home...

The first sponsor to have the iQ was Tanabe USA. They flew over their R&D team from Japan to measure the iQ for a front strut tower bar, four point frame brace, exhaust system and to test out the lowering springs.

The Japan iQ is just a little different on some of the specs so the measurements were taken and the parts will be available soon.

While the iQ was in the Tanabe garage they installed a set of NF210 lowering springs. They don't have as much of a drop as the DF210's but it closed the wheel gap by about half. I have been driving around today on them and I like the feel. They don't make the ride harsh and the handling is great. We will be testing out a set of the DF210's with a two inch drop to see how they feel on the road.

Here is a picture of the drop with the NF210 springs...

The before picture, you can notice the drop looking at the front wheel well...

In the near future I will be posting up additions from FIVE:AD, OEM Audio +, Beat Sonic, AirRunner and more.

A couple more additions to the iQ.

I took the iQ down to Murrietta and had the great guys at ClearPro install the clear bra for me. Lance and Kenny did a great job. There are no patterns available yet for the iQ so they did it all freehand. The entire hood is covered. The front end was done with one piece except for the small triangular pieces on the corners. They did an amazing job. You would be hard pressed to find any seams on this job. If you are thinking about having your iQ protected and don't want to wait for the patterns to be developed I high suggest you go see ClearPro. They also offer mobile service.

Many thanks to Lance and Kenny for the awesome job on the iQ clearbra. You guys did an amazing job!

I didn't really care for the look of the stock iQ antenna so I replaced it with a Shark Fin from Beat-Sonic. It came paint matched to my Blizzard Pearl and is a very nice match.

Simple installation took me about 15 minutes total. All you need is a Phillips screw driver and the cleaning pad that comes with the Shark Fin. Just remove the stock antenna by rotating it counter clockwise. Clean the area around the stock antenna with the cleaning pad. Connect the Shark Fin antenna wire with the new brass screw provided and then mount the Shark Fin using the attached double sided tape. The fit is perfect, doesn't interfere with the rear wing and the double sided tape holds very well. The Shark Fin looks much better than the stock in my opinion.

Thank you to Eric and the guys at Beat-Sonic for the Shark Fin antenna. I think it really improves the look of the iQ. I've got more goodies coming from Beat-Sonic and I'll post up pics as they come along.

I took the iQ to MGP Caliper Covers in San Diego so they could use the iQ to R&D the caliper covers. They used my xB a few years ago to measure for that model and their product looks awesome.

The caliper covers give the look of a big brake kit on your ride and improve the look quite a bit. You can have them powder coated to match your car and they offer custom engraving as well.

Here are the ones from the xB...

Here Oscar is getting ready to get the measurements on the iQ.

6' 4" MGP owner Mike Barland still has headroom in the iQ.

The product should be ready for distribution in about two weeks. When they come in we will shoot a video of the installation and show pictures of them mounted on the iQ.

Thanks to Mike and Ben from MGP Caliper Covers for the R&D opportunity, can't wait to see the finished product mounted on the iQ!

Looks like your car just got lowered some more after the springs settled. It looks clean! Wondering how it will look with 17" wheels.

Those were the ones that were meant to come with the iQ but they didn't have them at the dealership so they put on xB wheel covers. I swapped when these came in.

I'm going 18 on the wheels. Should have something on in the next two weeks.

I purchased a set of side mirror lights from eBay and installed them. The stock side mirror lights include only a turn signal light. The aftermarket ones include the turn signal but also running lights and welcome lights that activate when the car is unlocked and light up the area next to the door.

It was more work to install than I thought but well worth the effort in the end.

A few pictures of the final result...

The welcome lights

The running lights

The turn signal

I think it makes a big difference in the look of the iQ.

Today was an exciting day for me and the iQ! I picked up my body kit and wheels from Five:AD. I chose the full body kit including the new rear spoiler and a set of R6:F wheels. The wheels are 18 X 7.5 with a +45 offset. They are going to look great on the iQ.

The fitment on the body kit is amazing. Five:AD even includes a nine page set of instructions on painting and installation. This is by far the highest quality body kit I have ever had.

Picking up the body kit and wheels from Young Tea who works at Five:AD along with my buddy Wes.

Just like Christmas in January!!!!!

Smart, having an iQ of FIVE!

Dropping off the parts at my favorite shop, Imperial Body Shop in La Mirada

I'll be back in two weeks to pick up all the painted parts...

Six spokes of pure sexy! R6:F wheels from Five:AD

Safely tucked away in my garage until the body kit is done and I get tires.
