Default Rust under the hood ?

Brand new scion. Less than a week. I did notice some light rust in the engine compartment. Not on the engine but on the bracket near it. Also a lug nut has some rust on there.

It is very humid and has been raining.

Is this normal for a brand new engine ?

U cant stop rust. Its inevitable but minimizing it is the key. My dad's 98 camry has had a light coating of rust on the engine block for years but its nothing serious and I pulled the wheels off to check his brakes and the suspension peices have a ligh coating of rust as well. This is all normal and should be expected. As long as its has nothing to do with the body I wouldn't worry about it. Another thing is that rust will form more easily when the vehicle is exposed to moisture for long periods of time. Take ur brake rotors, u don't drive ur car for afew days and say it rained while u didn't drive it and the rotors will have a layer of rust on them. U could rub some oil on the spots with rust and it should be fine. If ur really paranoid use rustoleum on the spots( paint that neutralizes rust and prevents further rusting).

No telling how long the car sat around the port. Clean it off-it is probably just surface rust. OH--look carefully under the weatherstripping around the door. Some folks in high humidity places have seen rust there as well.......
