Well... this is it guys. The it passed the house last week, it's going to vote in the senate on Wednesday, so far, there are no motions to override, so it should go smoothly. We'll know if it's law by Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

Now, on to the details.
tC, xA, xD owners. According to the law, you will be allowed to tint 35% all around, or up to 30% in back and 50% up front, or as dark as you want in back with nothing up front.

1st and 2nd gen xB owners... unfortunately, due to the stock privacy glass, we fall under the SUV/MPV category. That means that we're limited to 50% up front. Now, before anyone says that we're registered as a standard car, yes, that is true, however, I got in touch with one of my people at Toyota corp and they were able to confirm that the stock privacy glass is darkened to 20%. So yea, 50% is as dark as we can go up front.

I'm thinking I'll do 50% up front and a windshield strip at 20%. Should darken the car enough.

And before anyone says 'screw it, I'm gonna go 5% anyway', don't be a douche. This law is one of the most lenient out there, play by the rules here.

35% all around is really clean. I'm sad that I can't do even tint, ah well.

35% is nice, but some tint shops will carry 30% that is really hard to tell from 35%. I doubt cops will pull you over for just tint.

That may be true, but here's the thing. If you do get pulled over and it meters too dark, you're getting a ticket, for sure.

Also, there's a second piece of legislation that has already passed making the tint shop liable for illegal tint. If you get tagged with illegal tint, the shop that did the tinting is ordered to pay a fine of $2,500 or something like that. No reputable tint shop will be tinting cars to an illegal level now. They don't want to have to worry about things coming back to them.

And cops will absolutely be cracking down on this now. When the law changes, the police will be looking even harder for people who are breaking it...

Also, I gotta ask... are you local?
I know countless people who have been pulled over for tint and ticketed. Some people have gotten tint tickets while their car has been parked, so yes... they will pull you over for just tints.

you are NOT good to go!!! this is a veto of quinns veto. its the legislatures way of telling the gov they want the law as written. it now must be either signed or totally vetoed by the gov.most laws are signed on or near the 1st of each month so we should see early next wk.

Nope. This is them vetoing the change. So now what happened is that the law passed effective immediately, with exceptions to SUV/MPV and vehicles with stock privacy glass. There will be a trailer bill in January which will include Quinn's adjustments.

If you do not fall under the MPV/SUV/Stock Tint category, you are good to go effective now.

For people with xBs, we gotta wait until the trailer in January.
I watched the senate session this morning. Matt Murphy asked that the senate do pass the law as it is written to 'get the ball rolling' and finish up with the trailer in January.

Section 99 of the bill states "effective immediately."

This was passed on a Friday morning, I'm not surprised that law enforcement agencies are slow to get word. The public notice should be available next week, but tell your friend that (as long as his tint falls within the new law) that any ticket he was given this weekend is invalid and will be thrown out.

Im sorry Ian but I think you are wrong.

Section 99 states
18 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
And until the changes in this bill are reflected here in section (625 ILCS 5/12-503) its not a LAW
