Default Install of Pioneer Premier F90BT 08-09 tC

Ok so this is my first time doing one of these write ups so take it easy on me. Also I installed this and then was asked for pics, so that is why the HU was installed before hand.

Also I gathered a lot of my info from other SL members and I want to thank them for posting up the info fo me to do this install. (GPS location, VSS wire, Reverse wire)

Legal stuff: I am not responsible for anything that can/could/might go wrong while installing this head unit. You are installing this HU, not me so they are your actions and not mine. So be accountable for your actions.

Important Note on Bypass: This bypass I know works for the F-Series AVICs. You need to look at this link to see how to relocate your mute wire. Or if you need more help. http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17013

Tools:

10 mm socket
Ratchet with extensions
Philips Screw Driver
Electrical Tape
18-20 Ga wire crimps (The blue ones)
Wire cutters/strippers/crimpers
Drill
7/32 Drill Bit

Install Items needed:
Metra Double Din dash kit for Toyota
Wiring Harness for Scion tC

Optional:
A all in tool from radio shack that will make life easy. I would recommend if you ever plan on doing more wiring and such. It allows you to strip several wires at once and also strip them at the same length.

Ok First step it to wire it up to the wire harness. The wire harness has a Key telling you what the wires are and the Pioneer booklet has a key telling you same. For the most part you will just match colors up. Make sue when using the crimp connections that they do not pull out. I have done several installs and I still get wires to pull out.
One that is done I wrap some electrical tape around the wires to keep the together and the crimp connections safe.

Next you will need to drill your stock brackets, where the dimples at, with the 7/32 drill bit look like this:

First Disconnect you Negative Battery terminal!

Once you have everything wired up and the battery unplugged you are ready to take apart you car.

Take off the shift ****

Pull here:

And here:

Then the shifter surround will pull up and back towards you be careful due to next step:

Remove lighter clip and un-plug lighter to remove shifter surround:

Next remove the HVAC section. It helps if you close the door when doing this. (I did it after I took the pic) This pulls out toward you:

Be careful not to hit the HVAC off of the shifter to avoid scratches.

Then unplug the HVAC wire harness (Sorry pic is blurred):

Next remove cup holders, these pull up straight towards the roof:

Now mount the brackets and Dash piece to the HU:

I tried to mount the Mic in the dash kit piece, but didn't measure and need to do it again so that is why it looks like crap, because I had to glue the spot I messed up:

Once you have that now we can do the rest of the wiring. Lets start with a pice of the relocated mute wire (needed for the bypass so you can uses GPS when the car is moving):

It used to be on this side, But you have to move it to here:

Then you need to attach the mute wire to the parking brake wire and then to the ground wire and ground it:

I grounded to this bolt on the left hand side:

Next time to do the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) Used for the GPS:

This needs to be attached to the orange wire on the bottom of the HVAC plug:

Top of plug

Bottom of plug where it needs to be attached.

Next your reverse wire:

You will need to remove the glove box for this.

Then you should have this:

The glove box will now pull towards the passenger seat to be removed completely:

Run your reverse wire towards the glove box:

Attach the reverse wire to the pink wire on the wire harness on the right hand side:

Now the GPS this is simple, mount it up on top of the air vent, I used some electrical tape to mount it, not the best but it did work:

Now you need to attach and run the iPod cable and USB cable:

Run them down toward the shifter:

I ran it on the right side of the shifter:

Zip tied it loosely to the OEM iPod and AUX wire:

I removed the old iPod plug from the arm rest (I forget how I did it awhile ago with my old HU)

Then I ran the wires through there into the arm rest area:

Once that is done, plug in all the wires:

Then bolt the thing back up into the dash and reconnect the battery and test it out to see if it boots you should get this:

And the is it! You are all ready to put everything back together. I hope this helps.

Thanks. I was going to put it up net to the sun roof switch, but didn't want to do the wiring. So I tired it there, I should have measured but I didn't and that is why it is so messed up looking. I am going to buy another kit and then try again.

But I do like it because then when you close the cover, you can't tell what I have in the car. Which is nice.

Nice tutorial. I have the X910BT arriving today. I did a search and it seems this will work on my unit as well. Wondering if anyone here has done the software mod instead. Any downside to doing this?

According to what I read on AVIC411.com is that No, you can NOT use the GPS while the car is moving. Pioneer thinks they everyone should pull over and set their GPS and then start their trip again.

This is only what I heard, I don't know for sure. Either way I didn't want to find out after I installed it so I just did the by pass.

Nice install - why are there two cables in this pic that seem to loop back?
