Tire Width Question

Tire Width Question
I have looked through the first 4 pages of posts on this forum and didn't see a question like this raised.
I am going to need new tires soon (currently running 225/40/18 on 18x8 +45 rims) and was curious as to the impact of buying wider tires on this setup. My car is dropped, but only 0.25" lower than a standard TRD drop. (for at total of 1.5" drop)
Is it recommended to get tires that are wider than 225 or narrower (closer to the 205 8" rim width) for for better handling?
I was concerned that a wider tire would cause the sidewall to rub the road more in hard cornering because the rim isn't there to support it. If this is the case, I will stick with a 225mm tire.
Also, I assume that a wider tire (regardless of rim width) will also be less stable in rain or across small to medium puddles. Is this correct?
Thoughts?
**NOTE* I do live in a cold climate, and wider tires are worse in snow, I have my stock wheels and tires that I swap on for winter.
