Default 2008 Hotwheels xB Mystery Car

Just got my 2008 Mystery Car. Direct from a fleabay seller in Malaysia. Basically an X-Raycer with large graphics on the side. No front/rear tampos. Chrome w/orange roll cage. No "Hotwheels" cast in the banner... a preproduction model? Factory second? Whatever.

Hmm, Malaysia base, Malaysia seller. Wonder if he works for Mattel? Looked around here local, none to be found. I thought I found one at WalMart, but wasn't quite sure and did not buy it.

Hey Steve,

Mystery has orange roll cage and grey release, my blue "X" has a grey roll cage. I like your blue cage!

Slightly deeper, darker blue, not as transparent:

BTW, G/L!

Hey Tanakasan, in the back of the card that the xB came in, there should be a white sticker at the top with several numbers on it. This will tell us if this xB is behind the dark packaging it came in. If you can take a photo of the top portion of the back of the card, we can determine a mystery xB in the Hotwheels packages.

Steve is correct, this was from a Malaysian eBayer. No card/blister. It was very well packed however and arrived very quickly. Good seller.

Metro273, The codes are meaningless. There are many different codes that produce the same cars. No rhyme or reason. Maybe a regional coding thing?

Red release? I guess whatever is available on the assembly line? All my X/R have grey cages except the mystery. My blue one is on a card with the purple stripe (white was later) maybe your blue cage was a K-Days exclusive...a "Blue Cage" special?

All mystery cars have a code at the top of the back of the car that determines what's inside. I would know, I've been collecting Hotwheels since '95...

OK. I'm new to HW but there is a lot of info out there on the web:

http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.js...=1200866848894
^^Look at the 2007 updated list, bottom of page 1...lots of different codes for same cars and no two identical cars with same code.

Otherwise, why would anyone need to rip the blister off to "see" whats inside? And why don't eBay sellers state what car is in their auctions instead of x-raying and other methods? Just a thought...

edit: And let me rephrase; the codes are meaningless to us collectors. Maybe Mattel knows which codes go with which cars, but since this is such a great way to sell more cars, they will not ever release an ID list. Unless you know something I don't!

I like Mopars. Go to page one and see how many codes just for the 70 Plymouth Barracuda. All different!

it was a give away at the K-Mart Hot Wheels events never in a blister.
good luck searching on e-bay they typically go for 20-40 when they hit.
i paid just over 30 w/shipping and searched for @ 8 months bidding on 3 others till i decided to put on the wavios and go for it.
still looking for the same casting in the flesh tone that they make the prototype hot wheels in thats a 70-100 item and very scarce

it will be an assembled x-raycer Scion xB done in this color plastic

It is funny if you think about it! Be victorious!

I am glad for the "Bay" it was the only place I could even see a picture of one. The Malaysia seller only had two, I own one now. I don't know of another like it. Scion is not what comes to mind at Mattel to stuff the mystery cards with. xB is not as popular as (three kinds of) Corvettes and a T-Bird this year.

Hopefully more show up. I have not seen any more on eBay since.
