I notice a bunch of VW guys running Diamond Racing wheels. They seem super cheap ($60-80 for custom backspace 15x. Does anyone know if these are safe/strong enough for street use? I checked their website, but it doesn't have any info.

I already contacted the guy, and I'm thinking of just trying em out. I've got a set of 15x8 steelies too, but they're so damn heavy!!

Well, everything I've read so far says not to use those wheels for street. They are too soft.

I've also heard, that DR will make a DOT approved street wheel upon request. I asked the guy on Cragslist if these were the street wheels, but he won't reply....hmmm, maybe I'll go direct to DR instead.

The only thing is, they look like NASCAR wheels if you don't chrome and psint them like this....

Il have to stop down at that place and talk to them. they are based right out of Milwaukee where I live. I want some 16x7s. Did the guy say how much more it would be for the DOT approved wheels?

I contacted Diamond about a year-and-a-half ago, and they said they could make wheels for the xB, and yes, they do have a street version. However, I also think they look too "NASCAR-ish" for my tastes. Great for real racing, I'm sure, not my style for the street.

I just think that "Nascar" style would look good imo. With some trim rings also. Would 15x8 with a 20 offset work good? I know the Sport Max 002 are a 0 offset and have a tendancy to rub. If I increase the offset it should reduce the rubbing issue right?

black with polished/chrome lip or red with chrome lips.

if theyre racing wheels liek road race or what have you they are more than strong enough for teh street. tehy may not be dot but in cali no one checks or knows.

i had 2 of them in 13x8 with slicks on them when i had my civic. and mine had not for street use stamped on the insides.

I sent an email to Diamond Racing a few days ago asking about the:
Pro Series wheels in powdercoat black
15"x8"
5.25 backspace
4x100 bolt pattern
+15 to +20 offset,
center bore at 54.1mm or larger.

I got an email back from Diamond Racing today

So with the backspace being at 5" and using the chart below I should be using a +12 offset right? I would rather not run with a 0 offset like the Sport Max 002 because of the rubbing issues.

So I got the wheels made and had quite a few problems. The fitment sucked in the front so I had to make spacers so the wheel would not rub the caliper. And then there were wobbling issues. The first set all wobbled like they were bent and on the freeway the shaking was horrible. I got a second set made and these were better because of the wobbling and that was solved but it had alot of up and down motion. And the balancing was a chore because I couldent do it a normal way they had to be done hub centric which became a pain because very few places could do it.

So I recomend not purchasing these for street use but for racing they are perfect.

Thanks for the update. Doesn't sound like they'd be good for racing based on your experiance. Lot of Miata racers use them though.

Here is another option for custom built wheels and a thread where 2 people had it done and wheels turned out perfect. I thought about selling my rims and going this route. This should help.

They were very nice looking wheels. It was just too bad they had so many issues after I got them to finally fit. Im going back to my 15" Rotas.
