I have a 06 xB. What is happening is once the car gets up to temp the fan doesn't come on..and water comes out of top of radiator hoses....if I turn the A/C on the fan works. I took the no 1 relay out and used the horn relay it was the same relay and still after car heats up water starts leaking and no fan. I know the No. 2 relay is for A/C because when i took it out it didn't work. Someone said it might be the coolant temp sensor..then someone said thermostat might be bad...I just hate guessing and the Scion place told me 90 buck a hour.....any help would be awesome or if someone can post where the sensor is (I think its right beside the hose going into the block) (grey color) or where the thermostat is.

sounds like a bad thermostat to me, cheap fix, takes about 5 min, and will be a good excuse to change our your coolant as well.

so the thermostat will make the fan NOT come on....because it dont come on once the car gets hot...thanks for the help...

have you checked the fan electrical connections to power/ground - fuse, not just the relays?

wonder if an obd2 code is being thrown?

i dont know where that is... i check to see if it was all hooked up and connected and it is.....the funny thing is it just started doing this 3 days ago.....i checked all fuses inside the car and all the fuses under hood on driver side where relays are.....

obd2 port is inside, drivers side fuse pannel, on the bottom of the fuse pannel, there is a white rectangular port thats about an inch wide, thats your obd2 port

Off to the left looks like where 2 fuse should be but mine only has one....is this the right thing?

The Fan Resistor may be bad or disconnected.

Part A1 on the first page: http://scionlife.org/Scion_Docs/2004...tric/parts.pdf You can bypass it for the short time to see if that makes the fan turn on when the engine is getting hot.

Whip the test light out and check if you have ground at both sides of the resistor.

Can you just disconnect the fan resistor and plug the paperclip into the connector to bypass it? And then see if the fan eventually comes on before you start having the boiling issue.
