Shaved / Relocate / Hidden Antenna
Hey Everyone,
As people requested I posted a DIY.
DIY: Shaved/Relocate/Hidden Antenna
B4:
after:
Tools Needed:
Flat Head Screwdriver
Phillips Screwdriver
Touchup Paint(in your car color of course)
Dupilicolor(Clear Coat)
Gloves
10mm Socket
Wrench
¾” Hole Plug(From Home Depot) $1.79
Sandpaper
Clear Waterproof Silicone
Pliers
Extra set of hands (at the end)
First off you need to follow the instructions on how to remove the rear quarter panel from:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24346
just follow the rear till you get the passenger side done, that’s all you really need.
First off get the 3/4 “ hole plug and sand it down, after that take your touch up paint and just do about 2 coats. Get started on the prepping the hole make more happen with the time needed.
Remove the antenna you currently have on.
Take a flat head and turn counterclockwise.
You should be able to remove all the black rubber pieces, then after wards you are left with this.
Go inside of the trunk to where you removed the paneling, use the wrench and 10mm socket to remove the highlighted bolt.(Yellow) Also remove the wire cables that are connected to the right of bolt.(Green)
You should have this after its been removed
Go back to the hole plug, make sure it is dry, if so then do about 2-3 coats of the duplicolor clear coat. Let it sit and go back to the car.
Go check on the the plug, if its dry then your ready to go on. Take the silicone and add some to the teeth of the plug. You are going to do some wiggling and add force to get this in, trust me it fits. This is where you need a friend to help. Have the person push down on the plug so that it is as flush with the car as possible, while you go inside the quarter panel and take some pliers to bend the teeth outward. This will help prevent the plug from going anywhere. When you are done doing as many as the teeth, add a lil more silicone on the inside just to give that extra waterproof protection.
If you are one that does not listen to the radio then you are done, just put the interior back together. If you want to relocate and have a hidden antenna as I did then continue.
Take the antenna, and take the wire plug and switch it backwards so that it looks like this.
Then put it back in at an angle facing the taillight but angled more down. Like so. Then just rebolt it in. and you are done. Put the interior pieces back in and you have a hidden antenna. I have the same reception as I did when I first got the car. Hope this was helpful.
