Default Tutorial: Gutted my Box Today..

Well I gutted my box today just to see what it looks like and deep clean it and guess what I found. RUST on my floor. it wasn't
that bad but still. I got it all off now I have to primer and paint over the metal. Oh I also found 28 cents in spare change. lol.

Please do! I'd love to see something like this before attempting to disassemble the whole dash or carpet, etc. There is a tech thread on taking apart just the center part of the console and I found it quite useful.

The reason why I gutted my box was to reduce almost 200lbs of unnecessary dead weight so I can drive it faster, save gas, and not have my friends keep hitting me up for rides. And one day put in a roll cage.

i left every thing from the belt line up alone... for now.....

That's crazy talk. You should have bought an MR2 if you didn't want to give friends rides, and if you wanted to go fast. ;)

I agree. One of the best things about the Box is the fact that it has so much interior space because of its shape. Removing the rear seats and installing like a flat aluminum floor would be pretty sweet though (like a cargo hauler). Wrong platform for caging and racing... and so is an MR2 btw heheh. MR2 sounds cool in concept, but unexciting in person. The Celica GTS engine would've still been torqueless, but at least it'd have 180hp at Redline and surely would have helped. Pretty sure both btw will be discontinued this year due to poor sales... OK back on topic. I'd strip mine for Dynamat, put in cabling and get an x-BOX hooked up with a flip down LCD. Lots of room for some serious ICE! ;)

Hmm...yeah that's kinda what my Box looked like a couple Friday's ago.... tho I didn't take the dash apart... but all the seats, carpets, door panels headliner... all pulled out.. put in Dynamat extreme bulk kit. Got all 4 doors, spare tire well/cargo area,
Rear quarter panels (below both windows) rear hatch, rear seat floor area... about 1/2 the roof, covered (ran out of Dynamat.. used all 36 sq ft) ... also ran audio wires down center of box to cargo area while things were torn apart...

Did take some pics of the install... t-dot? hotboxn??? Care to post them??
Would have to say difference in road noise is about 20-30% quieter.. probably would be more but front floor boards has some Styrofoam already down and didn't really wanna try removing that and the carpet/padding up the front firewall.

I couldn't do a write up because I had to put my car back together fast because i forgot i had an interview to go to.
Doh! But I did take a quick pic before i started to put it all back together.

The hardest part was reinstalling the rear seat bolts on the side. all in all took me about an hour and a half to get it back to normal.
and this is what i did with the left over paint that i used to paint over the sanded area where rust used to be.

Installed

What to you guys think?

Sorry to hear about your unexpected haste in reassembly. Does anyone have more complete pics/dirs about disassembly and reassembly? Especially with regards to the full dash?

stacktrayce if you have any questions ill try my best to describe the process without pics. in regards with the dash i might be taking that apart sometime this week. the only thing i don't wanna take apart is my headliner because i have a sunroof and the people that installed it kinda glued my headliner to the car.
