Toyota 2AZ-FE oil consumption TSB!
#41
I believe I have the highest mileage so far out of most ppl with tC's. I am sitting at 165k, I don't really consider it much mainly because my Silverado is at 220k, and my Ram is sitting at 347k.
I can tell you that my tc doesn't smoke, and has zero issues as far as driving, starting, or anything else, but I am CHUGGING oil.
It has gotten about 60%-70% better since I switched to 10w-30, and started adding Lucas additive.
Figured I would at least share that info with you guys, and I only do changes every 5k and my tc is N/A.
I have a header and intake, but thats it right now. Removed a bunch of stuff a while back--------I used to get tickets every week for my exhaust

Oil consumption
The oil consumption issue is due to a defective piston assembly. Some cars are covered under the recall: http://www.baileycar.com/recalls_html.html
“SCION AND TOYOTA Several models with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine may be using too much oil. In T.S.B.’s SB002411 and SB009411 issued on Aug. 11, the companies said the problem was traced to the piston assembly. Replacing the pistons and rings should solve the problem. Affected models are the 2007-9 Scion tCs and the 2008-9 Scion xB as well as these Toyotas: 2006-8 RAV4, 2007-8 Solara, 2007-9 Camry, 2007-11 Camry Hybrid, 2009 Corolla and 2009 Matrix.”

I was just joking. I never intend to go to the stealership, ever. I'd rather just get my motor built then have one of those fools actually work on my car. Worst part is, stealerships will try so hard to deny you especially when the powertrain warranty is only 60000 miles....it sort of sucks.

No thinking required, it is a waste of money and detrimental to the longevity of your engine.

is this a full blow recall? if so then it doesnt matter about the power train warranty. they are supposed to cover it regardles of having a warranty or not.
edit: from what im reading online in a few places, its an actual recall so then the warranty argument should be n/a.

Well I went to the stealership and they said that they had to charge for the oil change for the oil consumption test. They also said that I had to take the car in after 600 miles not 1200. Does anyone know if this is right?

Vulkinator - How much oil have you been using between oil changes? I guess you noticed something strange since you want Scion to do a consumption test.
Sounds to me like they are using the 600 mile figure from the owners manual and not the 1200 miles from the TSB.

On my last oil change I noticed that I took out about 2 quarts of oil less then I put in. So I'm burning a considerable amount of oil.
I also wanted to clarify if the dealership should be using the 600mi figure or the 1200mi. I had mentioned I knew about the TSB and the 1200 miles, but when he called me back he said that for all scion models it was supposed be 600. So I just want to make sure about that.

FWIW -- I just found this info on the net for the Scion TSB.
1) it applies to vehicles with VIN #s below these:
xb: JTLKE50E#91077956
tc: JTKDE167#90286965
2) it's apparently word for word the same as the Toyota TSB. That would mean it's a 1200 mile consumption test.
The Scion TSB is #SB002411. You can request a copy from your dealer if you want to verify it's content.
