Default TPMS for two set of wheels

How are you guys with two sets of wheels (a set of winter tires/wheels/TPMS and a set of summer tires/wheels/TPMS) doing with the TPMS ID code? It looks like you have to go to a dealer every time you change your wheels to register the TPMS ID code into the ECU...WHAT a major PITA...and that probably costs money too!

I just filed a complaint on the Scion chat to get this addressed...

Please help me out and everyone file a complaint with Scion stating that the TPMS ID code needs to be programed by the dealer every time the wheels are changed from summer to winter to summer to winter...etc.

Can't help here bud. Wish I could. We don't have the TPMS in Canada, so swapping wheels/tires is as easy as that.

From what ive read the code only needs to be programed to the sensors once. Once its done, its done. So if you have 2 sets of sensors, the first one should already be programmed to the cars TPMS Computer. When you buy the second set it should onyl need to be programmed once and then you should be fine. Not 100% positive on that though.

I'm not sure either...that is why I'm asking. Scion chat did not know. I don't think that the ECU will accept 8 TPMS inputs...I would think that it would look for all 8.

thats the thing, it does not constantly look for them. It only checks every so often, and by the time it does, you will be far enough away from your garage or wherever the other set of wheels is stored that you will be fine.

When i put my RPF1's on my Z i didnt swap the TPMS's over and i just deal with the light on the dash, doesnt bother me, and i dont need a light to tell me when i have a flat or low tire.

After i put them on it took about 50 miles for the light to turn on.

The only issue i see is assigning the same ID's to multiple sensors. (each sensor has a unique ID) If you can confirm that that is possible than id say your in the clear.

TRDSparks.com

for new wheels you need the TPMS and the O-Ring, washer, nut kit on the outside of the wheel...

TPMS 42607-33011 $72.86
Kit 04423-0E010 $5.39
Total $78.25 for each wheel

That is $313.00 + $7.69 for shipping

lol i would not pay almost 400 for 4 sensors. why not this..?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-Sci...Q5fAccessories

If you buy those youd just need the service packs (comes with a core, the sleeve, o rings, and a cap) You can get service packs from walmart TLE for 3 or so bucks each.

They look exactly like the OEM ones I paid $325 for...the next guy gets to save $100 for reading this...that is what this blog is about anyway...

But still the Kit 04423-0E010 for $5.39 is required...

But still yet, registering the second set of 4 TPMSs is still an issue...

How much does it cost to register the TPMS ID code in the ECU at the dealer?

I'll find out after I get my tires...and put them on...so far, I've only gotten the wheels and the sensors. God I hate going to that dealer. They give you some line of BS every time you go there. Are all Toyota/Scion dealers like that? The one I bought my car from was King's Toyota/Scion in Cincinnati...don't ever go there!

all you gota do is get those sensors off ebay. Then if they dont come with all the hardware needed to install them, just run to walmart and get 4 service packs for your year make and model. They are around 3 dollars each or less. Then get them in the wheels and all that jazz, and run back to walmart and have them relearn all sensors. I work at walmart (yea i know, stupid ___ job) But i deal with tpms sensors. when one is broken, we replace it, and go through steps to relearn it. It takes like 5 minutes. Also, they probably wont even charge to do relearn the sensors at walmart. And please dont say "WALMART!?! I would never take my car there!!!" because yes a lot of walmart techs are unqualified, but there are some who do shouldnt be assigned that stereotype!. Anyways.. lol

OK...I've got the second set of wheels on.

I've driven for a couple of days and no TPMS warning at all!

I took it to the dealer, and they told me that I was done and everything is OK!

I called Scion in Torrance, CA and they told me that I will need to reprogram teh ECU every time I swap wheels. The Scion dealer in Cincinnati is asking $90 for every programming! That is at least $180 every year! I told them that this is a formal complaint and I want it re-designed.

This sucks!
