Default Gen1 xB Manual Trans swap with Echo?

Hey everybody, I need a little help! I've got a xB RS 2.0 with the manual in it and my tranny siezed in first gear! Terrible right? Well, I'm the kinda guy that turns a break into an opportunity. I've read that the most cost effective change transmission wise for the gen1's is to swap with the echo manual. My question is while doing the swap, will I need to do anything other than swap bellhousings and get an echo speed sensor? I'm dyin to swap out the tranny and I've got about a month to make the decision. Can anyone help me?

Double check the gear shifter locations (there are two levers)on the transmission it self and make sure the reverse light sensor plug will still work on the scion.

Don't use a pre-2004 trans for your Xb. I trashed 2 transmisions last year and made the mistake of using 2003 Echo trans, The trans are the same on the out side but have a different differentials I shattered the old Echo one and had to do it all over again.

So 2004 and on echo manual trans is drop in for 2004-06 xB's? Wondering cause my box just started doing some funny things.

I think I was blowing gear oil all over the highway. The trans was making a very funny metal on metal dental drill like sound almost and the shifter got very tight. Limped to a walmart bought some 90W oil and added a bottle. Noise went away. Made it 90 miles added a bottle on the skyway in the mcdonalds parking lot. Made it 20 miles home. Now its making noise no matter how low on oil i am. Hope I did not trash it.

I know this an old thread, but i do not see a direct answer here? Is the echo transmission a direct bolt on for an XA or XB? are there any extras you have to do different?

I cant stand revving at 4000 rpm, 2 hours a day on the highway!

Thanks.

does anyone know where you cut on a 2004-2006 xb for a true 1/4 panel and do all three years fit? It seems to me I remember seeing a 04 back compartment area and the metal bottom area where the spare goes is different than an o5 or 06?
