Buyers Guide: Scion xA/xB Intakes

I ordered the Volant air intake from some online website for around $250. After looking at some picks that volant has on there website i noticed that you cant have a upper strut brace along with the volant air intake due to height of the box. I really did want to get the Volant because i have heard a lot of good things from it from people i know that have it on there dodge rams. A teacher actually dynoed his car due after the installation of it and had a increase of 8hp and 19 pounds of torque. We have a dyno at school. I cancelled my order of the volant and went ahead and got the Injen cold air intake.

I ordered the DC sports strut tower brace which i dont think will fit over the air box of the Volant Air Intake. Oh well.. Now im already cancelled my order for the Volant and am getting a Injen Cold air intake. At least during the wet months of the winter in So Cal, i can take the down pipe off and do with the short ram portion of the intake. Thats a plus i think.

perin short ram
for your upcoming reviews. i just bought the perrin short ram intake for my xa and it doesn't work. the car will only run for 2 seconds then it shuts off. i don't know what i could have done wrong unless i need to reset something afterwards.

yeah I was wondering about the Perrin, they claim they are the best intake due to MAF placement, which I agree as they have the maf in front of the PCV vavle hose so no filter is needed like the injen. but its made out of silicone, different approach, wanna see a few people get it and see what they think.

Awesome job on the research! Extremely helpful, I am still focusing my attention towards the volant "stock" box air intake system. Looking at the picture on their website and taking into account "cursedpumpkin's post" I don't think this system will work in my xB either, because of my tanabe upper strut bar. I guess I'm back to square ONE?

A lot of people having check engine lite w/ Injen intake...
This is just an idea... besides the oil diffuser filter hook up. Before I installed my intake, I took an old t-shirt- doused it in rubbing alcohol- and pushed/pulled it thru the intake tube. I wanted to get rid of and oil that might have been inside it from manufacturing, but the shirt had all kinds of oil, dirt, and tiny metal flakes all over it... it might be good Idea to do this if you're thinking of adding any intake to your car. Peace.
