Not necessarily. I believe the gearing on the auto is taller, so highway mileage might be a tad better.

I'm getting 28-29 mpg and mine is an auto with about 1500 miles on it.
I am really taking it easy too...no hard accelerations and speed is kept below 70 mph on the interstate.
