Default pioneer AVIC D3 in 2006 XB

Hi all!!,

I just installed the Pioneer Avic D3 and it is Great!!! but I am still having trouble finding the VSS wire for the 2006 XB. I have searched for this info and it seems there are quite a few places to get this wire, behind fuse panel,at gauge cluster, behind glove box also from the purple and white wire in the factory stero harness.

Can some one please give me the exact area for the 2006 XB

I have found the red and black wire for the reverse conection just need to hook it up, also going to start looking for wire to get NAV unit to switch between night and day color.

HELP HELP HELP!!!

if you haven't already, check www.avic411.com you can request on there a wiring diagram for what you need I believe. Plus, it might have been done already.

update:

For you 2006 xb owners when changing your factory stero to a NAV unit like the avic d3, when looking for the VSS wire there is a Purple wire with white stripe in one of the factory plugs it is for the audio feature to raise your radio volume when the car starts to move.

I found this info over at AVIC411 one of the MODS posted this tip when looking for the VSS WIRE.

Still need to locate the Reverse back up wire and I will be all done WHOO HOO!!!

I am not sure if this will help you or not but someone else on here simply tapped into the wires that go into the "reverse" light to get their "reverse" signal - as opposed to trying to find out by the tranny where the reverse wire is.

it may be stupid, may be a work around, but it worked for the dude. he hooked up his camera to that wire and now when he switches into reverse, his rear-view cam turns on and sends the signal to his visor mounted tv.

just info,

midtowndesi,

I have found the wire all the way in the back but when I tap into it it does nothing, I have downloaded the wiring diagrams and going to give it another go today. the unit GPS also provides this info so i may just leave it, the VSS wire is the big one, once i hooked that up the units accuracy is great!!

Thanks

xb_toast, read up on www.avic411.com

but for a quick answer:

you need to pull the mute wire from the harness and put it in the spot above its original place. then tap that into the ground. then ground the parking brake and your golden. make sure the harness is plugged into the HU all the way. It gives some people a hard time going in.

xb_toast,

The D3 is a peice of cake to bypass, goto avic411.com there is a great article on how to do it. it is pretty easy to install the last wire I was looking for was the reverse wire that turns on the back up lights, found it today in the lower kick panel on driver side, it is the smaller red with black strpe wire in the big wire bundle (2006 XB) there is a bigger red with black stripe wire but you want the smaller one. the other pesky wire the VSS for car speed is the purple with wite stripe in one of the plugs you will pull out of factory radio and not use when you install the D3.

Have Fun I Did!!!!

Sweet man thanks. So besides those two wires everything else was fairly simple?

it is pretty straight forward, I used a metra to toyota harness plug kit and that will get the basic stuff going, after i did this i discovered that the plug kit i had was missing a few wires that were on the harness that comes with unit. I had to add the green wire for parking brake which is bypassed and I had to add the wires for engine speed and for the reverse wire, pretty simple you need a realy small screwdriver to deepin the plugs.

what year is your box, if it is not a 06 the wire locations are a little different.
