Default NEW ALL TIME HIGH MPG

Just filled up at my favorite Shell gas station.
406.85 / 9.685 = 42.01

Very excited . I feel it could have been higher but the last couple of days I had to make a lot of small trips - stop and go.

The last 1/4 tank is always so crappy for me. i feel I pull worse numbers. Next time i might stop on the 1/4 mark - right before the light comes on.

Easy on the pedal - lots of coasting + engine off at lights + watching the scanguage . I really thought I was going to do better than this!

thats amazing! i dont know if its worth it for your car though to shut it off and on at stoplights.

either way, incredible gas mileage. nice work

So, whereabouts are you driving? Flat? Hilly? Urban? Suburban? Rural? Enquiring minds want to know!

A little bit of everything.
Short 2-5 miles
long 10 - 20 miles
mostly urban
no major highways - if i do no more than 65

Without a doubt - engine off coasting or engine off waiting at lights saves gas!!

Try it for one tank. A car going zero MPH gets zero MPG - This is exactly what the Toyota prius or any hybrid does. I'm very careful where I do it and have done it for the last 7 months and it makes a huge difference.

I too might be in the 40 - 41MPG range. It'll be a couple days before I fill up again.
But right now I am maybe a gallon above the quater tank with 270 miles on so far.

In regards to the gas gauge:
I'm guessing we have 2 gallons below the E line (the gas light reserve)
So that means on 11.9-2 = 9.9
So each quarter tank should be 2.475 gallons.

Does this sound right to others? Or do you guys feel each quarter segment is a different amount?

. Do you have MT or auto?

Engine off at every light obviously has its benefits. however most motor wear occurs at startup, not to mention the abuse the starter takes.

From my experience, the gas gauge is extremely undependable, and seems to work pretty progressively (rather than linearly - or should I say CORRECTLY!) from full to empty. On an average tank I can get 110-130 miles for the first quarter, by the time I hit half tank I'm at 185-200, third quarter is 270-290, etc., rather than say, an even 85 or 90 or so miles per each quarter tank.

the gas gauge is set up to make you think you have less gas then you realy do. its been that way ever since the fuel pump became electric. it also doesn't have the same ratio threw the span of the gauge ( ie a 1/4 tank is worth 100 miles )
think about it...........would you reather know way befor its importaint or when you have 8 miles left befor you stall.

I'm quite happy with my best mpg of 37.6. I can't bring myself to drive the way you would have to to get those numbers.

Surprisingly my last tank with the 18" TRDs on I managed 32 mpgs. That has never happened before.

I just filled up exactly at the quater tank mark to 1 click it was 8.274 gallons. I'm going to do this eack time for each hash mark and I'll post the numbers. That should help on back of the hand milage calculations

On this tank (odo adjusted) 36.97 MPG
Not as high as I though I'd get this tank, 66% highway.

Are you saying you shut your engine off at lights and while coasting down hill? If it were like the Prius and started back as soon as you hit the gas that might be ok, thanks but no thanks. I'm getting 38-40 with xA.

Engine off while coasting downhill = very dangerous.

Engine off at stop light = ok if you are stopped for a minute or more, probably not saving that much if less. Starting up an engine creates a lot of wear and tear, and you may be losing as much in future life of the car as you are gaining in mpg.
