Default Remote Starter on MT

Anyone have a remote starter/alarm on their MANUAL transmission tC? I'm trying to decide what brand/model is the best, price dosent matter. I really would like something like a smart key system on high end cars installed also.

Suggestions please !

wow 1 mile? mine was rated like 50 or 500 meters, cant recall but being in a building or obstacles significantly cuts the down the range so basically its useless most of the time unless you're in an open space. I wish they will make something you can hook with your mobile phone and reach wherever you have signal..

Careful with the "mile" range advertisement. In the city range is greatly reduced from interferrence. Trilogic (bypasskit.com), now actually owned by DEI, has a bypass for the tC model number XK05 that works without using up one of your factory keys to put inside a 555U/equivelent.

Just be careful with MT installs due to leaving your car in gear and remote starting it. In the past I have used a magnetic reed switch on the shifter shaft and positioned it in a way that if I left the vehicle in first gear the switch would send a ground to the negative safety wire found on most remote starts.

This way if I left the car in first gear it would not remote start. Any other gear besides reverse does not have enough torque to making the car move more than likely. And I never leave cars in reverse when i park them.

Dunno, just some suggestions.

Yes, the mileage ads account for wide open space, so you can really only use that number to compare to other remotes.

About the cell idea... during our senior design projects in college, my friend built a system that would call your cell if your alarm was triggered, and would even allow you to call the car and roll windows up and down, lock and unlock doors, shut the car down, set it into panic mode, etc. So if the alarm was triggered you would recieve a call and could control all of the alarm functions. Or just call up your car and raise the windows if it rained :p

The issue was the economical part of the design and the montly cell bills associated with it, but that was 7 years ago.

Yup it does, installing bypass might help though but dont trust it 100%. Careful in especially in car wash, change oil, valet parking or servicing your vehicle or people driving your car they might leave it in gear. I installed a toggle switch to mine so I can disable it when needed.

1. Yes. I've only lived in SoCal.
2. A cold car is still a cold car.

The Luxlink unit I have installed won't engage if you leave the car in gear so there are no worries regarding that.

LMW's website only shows their Lexus models of the remote start but you can PM Doug and he will take care of you.

and you don't really need to warm up the engine unless it's absolutely freezing... at which then you would mostly be using it while the heater is on to warm up the cabin.

i think i remember someone from toyota specifically saying you are not suppose to warm them up. they have internal features built in to warm up the car.

I am also certain that the manual or some other Scion literature mentioned that you can just startup and go. My family has driven a Camry to over 200k miles w/o ever warming it up but I still prefer to let it run for at least 20-30 seconds before hopping onto the freeway.
