Was wondering if anyone out there is running new rims without installing the original Pressure Sensor on the new rims. Will this cause any problems for the car besides just the signal being lite up on the dash??

 

Nope, the only problem will be your light will be on. If your stock rims with TPMS sensors are going to be in your garage, the light will go out when you come home and come back on about 20 minutes after you leave home. (The system signals a malfunction if it doesn't detect sensors for 20 minutes of driving.)

 

I am running mine without the sensors. No problem at all just the light. Wont be the only light on the dash here real soon.

 

i dont have them becuase my rims cant take them.. just a light that stays on..

pop the dash apart and put a small piece of electrical tape over the light...the tape blends into the gauges and you cant even tell its there!

 

why dont you have the sensor?

 

too lazy to go thru my PM's but someone suggested to me (which i will be doing in the spring) to take the tpms out of the stockers, put them in a PVC pipe (capped off and sealed) with a valve stem on it, pump it up to 35psi, stow it in the rear and no more light. seems like a bit of work, but it will be sano. no tape and no dash work required. i'm running no TPMS in my MSW's and dealing with the light. as long as its not a red one, i don't care much!!

 

The tape trick works great, done it on several Yota's.

 

So the only harm is a stupid dash light??? I'm in the market for new wheels myself, and am thinking about buying them w/o TPMS sensors. If the only drawback is an eff'ing light, I think I'll save myself the money.

 

So if I buy new wheels, I need to buy new TPMS? Can't you take the stock ones out and use with another wheel? If not why not and if you have to buy them where do you buy them and how much are they?

Should be able to use them with most aftermarket rims unless the valve stem hole is in a location where it doesnt seat properly or where there isnt enough room. But I believe tirerack sells TPMS systems.

 

Yeah, but I'm not spending $370 for them. F' that. I'd rather save $370 and have a little light on my dash.

 

when i put my new wheels on they just swapped the tpms over... my light never came on....

 

This is correct. TPMS is just a warning system and it doesn't interact with any other system in the car. It's just a stupid dash light.

Of course that light could mean the difference between a fixable flat and having to buy a new tire because you drove on it for 10 miles before realizing it was flat.

 

try buying high end JDM rims.. theres no way they fit in the rim..

the normal person will just keep driving with the light on with the tire flat.. Just like how everytime we get overheat jobs, do the prople ever stop to see whats wronge or even notice there lightison or there gauge saying its hot.. the only reason they stop is that its to late already and smoke comming out of the hood..

IMO its just some thing the USA came up with and made it Law to have..

If you choose to leave the old ones in the old rims and buy new ones you have take it to the dealership to program..

my friend that owns a wheel shop has experianced problems with swaping those sensors to larger rims.. the light still comeon after.. and most low pro tires have a higher pressure than the stocks and the sensors are made for Factory tires. They did a few car in which they threw the sensors in the spare tire.. but now you cant use the spare tire becuase the sensor just laying in there

I just left mines out.. and put a Pic of my kids in front of the light so i dont see it.. and being the rim ***** i am i would to always have to take those things from the old wheels so in other words youll pay for mount and dismount the old rims.. than have to pay to mount tires on the new rims..

 

i've done 2 xB2's now, with the factory sensors and both have the light on with in the 20min... wtf? i heard the lower pro tire has a different pressure range then stock so that trips it?
