Default Help. Tomorrow morning I'm buying an xD.

Don't know much...correction, don't know anything about cars...so please be kind.

Totaled my Camry last week and today I wandered into the dealership to unexpectedly fall in love with the xD. Thanks to this forum, I've learned a ton, but please advice on the following so I avoid getting screwed tomorrow...

1) Dealer says base price with del, process, hand is $16,620. Web sites say it should be $15,970. Which is right?

2) Is Remote Engine Start worth it? I'd love to have it, but are there any downsides to it? Also, dealer adds it for $500+. TRD Sparks sells it for $300 -- which is a great deal, but then who installs it and how much will that labor cost? Does it make more sense to just have the dealer install?

3) Carpet Floor Mats. Has anyone bought them through TRD Sparks? Are the mats good quality and does it include one for the trunk?

4) I noticed the spoiler is on the accessory list, but I thought that came standard with every xD. I haven't found an xD without one. Did you guys pay extra ($300 from dealer) for your spoilers?

Eager to hear back...thanks a million.

1. every dealer is different so prices varety on whatever extra they had in the car.

2. Remote engine start is worth it but you can get it for alot cheaper out of the dealer like at a local stereo shop that has a good reputation and it's comes with an alarm when from the dealer it is only the remote engine start and not the alarm. it is called keyless entry and doesn't sound the horns when someone breaks the windows for example.

3. they are the exact same ones that come from the dealer and i don't think it includes the one for the trunk.

4. spoilers don't always come installed from the dealer but hey if you plan on getting it from them then just get it at once that way you know the color does match and it was installed correctly because that is how it was made from factory.

I think i can answer most of your questions:

1) that sounds about right for the base price. everyones price is going to vary just a little depending on their states taxes and fees for licensing. just make sure there is not a "dealer market adjustment" or something else stupid like that. and dont let them try and charge you $900 for "processing fees"... thats not the way xDs are sold. everyone pays the same base MSRP.

2) I dont have the remote engine start, but from what ive heard, it turns the car off as soon as you open the door to get in, then you have to restart it again with the key. even if you got it for $300 from TRD sparks and did not want to install it all yourself, you would be looking at close to $500 after paying someone to install, so you might as well go through the dealer so the work is warrantied and such. and you can only get it on an automatic, obviously, if thats what you want.

3) Have no idea on the floor mats. I have the carpeted ones from the dealer. $80 i think? excellent quality.

4) my xD does not have the spoiler, and it was like $300 bucks to add it on. its not standard.

Have fun tomorrow, just mind your Ps and Qs and youll be fine! oh, and welcome!

I just bought mine Friday night, I was looking at a yarris and had decided I wasn't interested. I was starting to walk out the door and the salesman said "oh wait!, I have one other car to show you" he walked me over to the far side of the showroom and showed me the xD. I drove it out of there an hour later lol.

1. I am pretty sure that all the scion dealers have a price "lock" Toyota dictates what the car sells for .. Period.. The Dealer can still back load the deal with doc fees, handling fees and processing fees. Which is probably what they are doing. You can try an negotiate these fees and surcharges with them, but the fact is economy cars that look great and get 33mpg are hard to come by and the market is smoking hot for all cars like this right now with gas going through the roof. If you don’t by the car now because of their "fees" they don't care. The dealership will sell it in the next week anyway.

2. Wait on the remote start, they are nice but not 500.00 nice.

3. I didn't get mats when I bought mine... I will be getting them this week; I’m picky about keeping my car nice.

4. Mine did not come with a spoiler, its not standard, and I don’t miss it. The 300 I saved on that will go to tint and maybe some vinyl graphics.

1) The website doesn't take in to account the sales tax, licensing fees, etc. Thats why it's always cheaper on the site Plus it may or may not go up depending on your Auto credit score.

2) Honestly, I wouldn't get anything like that from the dealer. I would save up money for a better alarm system that comes with auto start. The dealer will honestly try and get money out of you should you have them install the part(s) you get. All dealers charge labor differently, but all charge too much.

3) The mats from TRD Sparks are the ones you get from the dealerships. They'rejust cheaper ;) I don't know if they include the mat for the trunk, but I would have to think so.

4) The spoiler you see listed is actually a slightly larger spoiler, and in my opinion ugly. The xD already comes with a small spoiler which looks just great on the car. It seems others are saying the spoiler on their car is not a spoiler at all... it IS. There is a small standard spoiler and then one that you can "upgrade" to that is larger and juts out more.

What color are you thinking of getting? Auto or manual?

1.) Don't get any dealer accessories.. if it comes with wheels ask for the factory wheels that you paid for!

i got aftermarket wheels through my dealer... they financed a voucher and let me go wherever i wanted to get the wheels... and i got to keep my stock tires and wheels, so ive got an extra set for winter. that may be a good option for you if your dealer will do that.

sounds to me that the extra $650 they are charging you is for the stability control. they aren't padding the price.

On the remote start, I had an after market one installed on a 98 Tacoma (also have an 08 tC) and it was the best thing I ever purchased. I live in Wisconsin so it really pays off on those chilly winter mornings. It is an alarm/remote start/ engine immobilizer.

i figured it out. that extra $650 is for the VSC. he said the gov is going to require all cars to have that by 2010, and suggests I get it for safety reasons. is that true?

should i get it? hopefully this thread isn't dead.

yes, get it. if it only works once in the time you own it, it is more than worth it.

I know I sent you a PM asking where you were shopping and suggested a dealership, but, I completely forgot about Doug as Beaverton, they are great and work with the Scion community alot with shows and whatnot. Congrats on the new ride. I look forward to seeing you at some upcoming events. Check out the PNW section for the St. Helens cruise coming up in a couple of weeks, hope you can make it.
