Default New to modding and want the 'deep' noise.

OK, no laughing at me! The other day I was parked next to another xB and when he accelerated, his box seemed as if it was screaming at me, hah. It had a very loud deep noise. It made his box seem as if it was more powerful. What can I do for this? I'd like the same noise, but I'm not exactly Mr. Moneybags, nor do I have the greatest auto skills.

Also, a while back I used a windex wipe on my Speedo, and ever since, the plastic is all foggy. Not on the backside (like moisture trapped), but on the outside, where I actually wiped. Where can I get a replacement shield (if that's what you can call it) and what exactly is it called?

Thanks!

You can pick up an axle-back exhaust anywhere from 100.00 to 500.00, depending on the brand. I'd steer clear of the ebay cheapies though, and go with a decent brand. An intake and header even adds to the aggressive sound.

Try cleaning your speedo cover with some rubbing alcohol, i don't see how windex would destroy it. Probably would be a dealer only replacement, but I tried to buy just a needle, and they said i'd have to buy the whole assembly, for over 400.00! Or pound the pavement and hit up wrecking yards till you find one. I've never seen one on ebay. Good luck.

You'd be surprised at what just removing your airbox snorkle, and getting a K&N replacement filter and Valor exhaust tip will do to your exhaust tone! Cheap and easy mods that actually help performance and MPG a little, and sound great! You could do all of this for about $100, and it takes maybe 1/2 hour!

BoxOffice - I have already removed the snorkle, that was a piece of cake. Now about the K&N replacement filter...what exactly is it and where would I get one? The exhaust tip I'm sure I can get ahold of....eBay does wonders for that stuff.

bbszero69 - axle-back exhaust system? Would I contact just a local AutoZone for something like that? Or would I need to find an authorized dealer? Intake & Header--are those things I could work on myself with minimal automotive knowledge or even with a friend with adequate auto skills?

I'll definitely try the rubbing alcohol, because the $400 is not anything I want to spend on it, hah. If it doesn't work, I'll deal with a foggy surface!

I have the Precision Muffler axleback, it sounds glorious. Very deep, nice and aggressive. It's pretty much your best bet.

Wow, you got a heck-of-a savings! But thanks! I checked it out and that's EXACTLY the sound I'm going for.

Thanks!

It sounds even lower in person, also when it's in gear. It's a really nice piece.

What kind of installation is this? Is it something I could do with my minimal skills? Also, what kind of tools would be needed? Basics from any home garage?

Thanks again!

I bet that film/fog on the speedo is because something came off of what you were wiping it with-grease or something maybe.

Right now on craigslist up here somebpdy is selling a brand new TRD axle back for $200-keep an eye on craigslist where you live too-you might get lucky. Maybe even a front impact xB that somebody had a nice exhaust on that they are parting out.

An exhaust install is a pain the first time you do it.
It's really only one bolt (at the bracket) but you'll wrestle with the first hanger until you figure out what you're doing. You need to lube up the hangers, especially to pull the stock one out.

Also, be aware that the Precision one has the worlds most annoying hangers. They are U shaped, rather than L shaped, so there's a lot of twisting to put it on, but it's crazy secure once it is on.

Also, remember to buy a new gasket from the dealer for where the system joins the stock exhaust.

I'd just get the new gasket cause chances are the original one will come un coiled while swapping the new exhaust.

I have the Strup V2.0 with a silencer and love the deep rich tone.
