New 1/4 mile times
I installed the K&N intake yesterday and got back from the track a while ago.
I have to say that Im not pleased. The $260 intake made the tC slower.
Keep in mind the ECU has not learned the intakes air flow. Or at least thats what everone else is saying??? The main reason why Im mad is tonight was the last track night off 2004. The track re-opens in January so I wont be able to tell what difference the intake made. Ohh, the car is an automatic.

I will say that I was pleased with the first two runs mph wise. I picked up almost 3mph with just the intake. However, the intake killed my low end power so my 60's are horrible. I tried everything besides a neutral to drive drop to get good 60's. It just wasnt possible.
So what do you all think?? Could the ECU really be that clueless on whats going on?? Unless the car is around 3000rpms in a 1st gear roll (low gear) its slow as hell.

I'll just wait to see what makes what for power. If Greddy comes out with the turbo soon enough, then I'll buy it. If not, then a new header will be bought, along with the TRD S/C when that's out. No point in building a low reving car all motor if your intent is performance.
yeah huh, an intake seems to take low end power. its almost u can feel the loss. but at higher speed, its wonderful.

If you were serious about going fast you wouldn't have wasted $700+ on an automatic transmission....
You shouldn't be SHOCKED nor DISAPOINTED.
Just end it now and buy a nitrous kit, that will make FAR more improvement over anything else you can do and don't count on the TRD Supercharger or Greddy Turbo either, or you'll be looking big rebuild my automatic bill from Level 10.
What do people think when the buy a car anyway??

Cop Tires, Cop Suspension, Cop Dual Exhaust.
Its Automatic too and prolly MUCH faster
and I haven't even used my SCT flasher on it yet...

The cop issued crown vics are ungodly slow. They are slower than stock crown vics due to all the extra weight in a cop car.
Did you notice that your trap speed was higher in every run with the new intake? Have you considered that you were simply having a tough time launching the car that night. Maybe with the new intake changing the power band you were weren't bringing it up to the correct rpms anymore. Were the weather conditions possible different? Was the track colder or possibly a little damp. Based on the trap speed i would say it isn't the intakes fault.
Spending money on an aftermarket intake for an automatic is kind of like putting a wing on a motor home. You're a moron!

i haven't really heard anything good about any bolt ons for the tC. there's always either a problem, or they just don't make power.
and yeah, let's flame the guy for using an automatic. because only big boys use manuals, right? grow up.
nobody really knows anything about the automatic, or what kind of power it will hold.
the MKIV twin turbo supra comes in an automatic. i guess those guys are "noob ___s" as well, eh?

cad455,
What you don't understand is the fact that the autotranny for the tC was designed for economy. The manual tranny for the tC was designed much more aggressively.
The Supra was not designed with economy in anyone's mind.

also consider that the whole point of a CAI is to increase air flow, (colder air) to help the car breath better, so in order to get the best from a CAI you really need to get a CAT back exh. and maybe even headers. Then the CAI will be able to breath more air.

there are also other factors that could be part of the problem, which include tire pressure, outside temp., temp of engine, and how much gas is in the tank (a full tank of gas only adds extra weight) just to name a few. Thoes things can make as much of a difference as a CAI if not more.

2800 rpms seems pretty high for an auto, however it does not sound good for car. You can also Neutral drop it from any rpm range you feel like, but its not a good idea.
