Either your car was so cold that something was actually "stuck", or the car was winding out the gears on purpose to warm up. I had a 2000 Silverado that did that. If it was really cold out, it would wind out the gear changes for the first 10 minutes of driving. Once everything warmed up, it would go back to normal shift points.

Scions do that until the little blue warm up light goes out.

The xA has the blue light too. It's the engine coolant "idiot" light. It's blue for the first few minutes if the car is cold, it goes out when temps are normal, and if it comes on red, you're screwed.

there isn't a blue light on the tC.. it's on the other models..

as far as high rpms.. it won't go past either 2nd or 3rd gear when it's that cold.. im in michigan with an auto tC as well.. and it does this when it's cold to warm up the car quicker.. just take it easy until it warms up..

yeah, when its cold it wont shift into high gear...

the best way to warm up the car is to drive it. if its really cold out it might take a really long time...

it's normal on newer cars...

our tC's dont have the "warm up light" because we have a temperature gauge, just watch the gauges and youll know when your car is warm and that should be about the same time that it starts driving normal

this has been happening on my tC(auto) now that's it cold and the car hasn't been warmed up enough...running late for work today so i didn't have time to warm it up long and it was over 4,000 rpm on the highway for a few minutes...it was -12 this morning...said so on the TV and was surprised to see the same -12 on the tC temp display.
