Default Please help - my car got shot!

Hello all,

The other day I noticed a dime-sized dent/chip/pockmark on the rear left door of my xb. Looks like someone shot it with a bb gun, and my old mechanic thinks so too. Unfortunately, he says that to fix it right he will have to paint the whole door...as well as the front door so that the new paint blends into the old. I trust the guy, but $518 feels like a lot for such a small injury. He told me to see if my insurance would handle it, but my non-collision damage has a $250 deductible, which is still nothing to sneeze at. I’m also worried that if I take it up with them, my rates will go up. I’m wondering: shouldn’t the dealership’s body shop be able to use the exact same paint that’s already on my car, and avoid painting both doors? I’m going to go over there for a second estimate, but this situation has already left me frustrated and confused.

This is my first new car, and I don’t have any experience with this stuff. Any advice would be lovely.

Thanks,

Joe

Paint shouldn't have faded that much from original, I think the body shop wants to take you for a ride.

I'm not sure about up there, the north, but down here, the south, we have guys that go from dealer to dealer touching up cars. They do great work and can probably fix your problem very cheaply. Look around to see if you can find a dealer's touch up guy. Chances are he can get the job done for much less.

You should look around...don't take the first thing you hear....there is always another cheaper way to do it...you just have to take the time and look around at different shops....you will find something better in price...trust me...:D...i hope you get that fixed soon...good luck

You need to find a paintless dent repair person in your area!- should not be more than $75...
