Default Colder weather = less friendly shifts :(

I recently had a 35,000 mile service done on the car and ever since then it has been a bit of a _____ to put the car into second gear. Especially now that it is much colder outside. I am not able to put the car into second until I have been driving for at least 30mins. I realize this is somewhat normal until the car warms up but even then it sometimes grinds into second. Yes I know how to drive, I have been driving stick since 14 years of age.

Could they have adjusted something in service that would/could make it worse? What can I do to get rid of this horrible grind, it can't be good for the tranny/synchros.

Has anyone heard of SynchroMesh before?

i know what u mean bout the gears being not so smooth in this bad as$ weather, the only thing i can tell u is possibly take it bak to the dealer if not use Tranny Synthetic Oil and it smooths out the Shifting alot.my car does this but never grinds it feels harder to go into 3rd but its because its so cold out

I never had a problem with my 05 5-spd or my 08 5-spd. The only problem the cold has even given me, is that it takes brutally long to start when it's 12-30º. For some reason it fired up right away and it was 4º

long to start? really? my car fires up without a problem really, i jus hate sitting in the car till it warms up. shifitng always feels like the fluid is frozen and the shifter is jus harder to move around not much though

I have heard that SyncrhoMesh (the stuff they use in Vettes) is really an awesome fluid. Even better than Redline. I have seen many cases where people still suffered from issues after Redline, or didn't really notice a substantial change in performance of the gb ... but with SynchroMesh it was smooth like butter. I think I am going to try and pick some up and have my tranny fluid swapped.

I had all my work done at Smithtown Toyota, but I am now in Brooklyn ... I am just thinking that now because I am over 36,000 they will give me the whole "out of warranty" BS.

I am going to change it next week using the sticky for changing fluid. If there is still snow and it's freezing I will take it to a shop.

I will let you know if it makes a difference.

Im working in Iowa right now and the temp this morning said -20 F in my car! Shifting is fine but the clutch pedal moves very slow. I could push it down and it takes a second before it releases.

yeah going into 2nd while the car is "cold" is painful.

but once the car warms up its no problem.

does replacing the tranny fluid really fix this issue ?

agree with op post. really crunchy 1st and 2nd when cold. i got redline tranny fluid last winter. no change whatsoever now i have motul tranny fluid still the same. I guess thats the way it is.

sorry to be off topic but when its cold do you guys also experience a noticeable tapping sound coming from the windshield? is that also normal? thanks
