Default Scion Security Question

Those who have it please let me know if:

- when you pull on the handle of the car if your alarm goes off?
- if a truck or bus goes by does your alarm go off?
- other than when you hit the "panic" button on the supplied key fob, does it ever go off?

Thanks!

Mine has never gone off, even when someone hit the bumper. I am pretty sure the security system is no more than some type of start disable.

there is a microphone "glass break" sensor that will set off the alarm. . . I tried gently tapping the the mic, and it did set the alarm off.

The RKE manual also suggests tapping the window with the key, but it takes quite a knock to set it off. . . not recommended to go that route. It's a decent enough deterrent to stop 90% of car theives. The other 10% would not be interested in a Scion, unless you have some major bling in it, like monitors, sound system, etc. There are better cars that require less effort and are worth more in parts. . . *cough*honda *cough*. As in all cars, the most attractive part is going to be the stereo. The rest of the (stock) car really isn't worth the effort to steal.

No, the factory security is a little more than you think. It has a starter cut-out and auto re arm. The mic in the interior can be checked by closing all your windows and sit inside the car. Next arm the system either by locking the drivers door or with the key fob. Notice the red light on steady? Wait until the light stars flashing, then clap your hands together once real loud. The alarm will go off. Thats why the dog bark set it off. It won't work if you clap like a wimp though.

Again, starter cut-out is easy to bypass, especially if you do your homework. . . but odds are most people don't know how because they never bother to learn. Most auto theft is just jackin of the interior stuff. Auto re-arm is not a big whoop either. I don't want to give away how it works, but lets say you can bypass the whole system and disarm it rather easily.
