...uh...yeah...a supercharger or turbo charger....

a Blow-Off Valve has an accual purpose, it doesn't just sound cool.

A BOV is just a big capacity valve that opens when there’s a strong manifold vacuum present. Well, that’s how all standard ones work, anyway. In fact, what the valve is designed to do is vent the pressure build-up that otherwise occurs between the closing throttle and the still-spinning turbo.

But if you want the valve to make lots of noise, install a whistle in its outlet. Seriously. It works...

I hope that helps

Before you lecture make sure you know what you are talking about. First, that diagram IS WRONG. A Blow-Off valve has nothing to do with manifold or plenum pressure. It's main function is to prevent compressor surge. There is something called a "Throttle Body" which when opened, allows air to run through it and into the motor, causing combustion. On a turbo car you are forcing compressed air through this hole. So what happends when you let off of the gas and the compressed air hits a wall. It goes back out the way it came...through the compressor causing compressor surge. A Blow-Off valve has a flapper basically using spring pressure to hold it close. When the throttle body closes, the air is forced out the blow-off valve...which makes a noise. Most cars need the air to go back into the intake (the pipe that goes into the turbo) because cars with MAF sensors had X amount of air going into the motor...but the blow off valve let Y amount of air out...causing Z quantity going into the motor. Because there was supposed to be more air in the motor, the car adds more fuel, causing the car to run rich...which degrades performance.

Before YOU lecture anybody you should get your facts straight.

First off here's a picture of a BOV

That top nipple goes to a vaccum source, typically AFTER the throttle body (also can be located in other areas i.e. fuel pressure riser ANYWHERE it can see vacuum or boost pressure). With out that vaccum line connected a BOV will NOT function, so it is a VERY important element of a BOV for it to work properly.

You are however correct on everything else.

I don't mean to come off like an ___ or anything its just you snapped at someone who gave out facts and you come off on him rather harsh.

^^^ Lol~ we learn something new each day

There are other options you can go if you want that BOV sound, HOWEVER they don't provide any actual function other than creating the whistle sound and make your car as ricey as a steam cooker

I don't know everything about turbo/superchargers and I won't pretend I do, but this is how the new BOV's work. I didn't mean to offend you...or anyone. Sorry if I did.

Default Thanks

Ya thanks for the answer I asked a mechnic and he said the same thing you need a turbocharger. But you said there are some ways to install a BOV so it doesnt do anything just sounds "cool" to be at least.

you can weld it on the exhaust pipe so it'll sound louder than under the hood.

HKS SSQV BOV is so nice, but the bov sound get annoying after awhile though so atmpsheric bov are just to make pretty noises. You need a turbo before you can get a bov and yes you can always grab those fake electrical bov.

That is the sound of a turbo spool. Not a BOV.

lol, hearing the same sound over and over again while you drive would get kinda annoying...but you gotta have love for the BOV.

I'd buy one, and everytime I heard that "Psssttt", I'd giggle like a lil school girl inside.

Whatever you do... don't buy one of those fake turbo sounding thingies....

Please don't! You will be made fun of!

I do like the BOV sound though... my favorite is driving by people at full boost and letting off the gas! Hahaha... I made a kid jump the other day, looked like he was going to ____ his pants! I have the TurboXS RFL and it's one loud ****...

I wouldn't turbo the Scion though, the rods look like toothpicks...

The car I'm buying in a week has a Greddy Type S bov, sounds pretty nice...But the HKS SSQV is by far the best sounding bov.
