Default Top MPH

What is the top MPH you can achieve without replacing the engine? Also what kinda things could you buy to increase the top MPH? So far with AEM intake, and DC headers and exhaust i can get to 115-120ish quite easy, but i want to go higher.

I havn't had enough road to go all out. . . but all I gots is an intake. . . and a crappy one at that. . . I've hit about 119, and ran out of road. . . this is in a 5spd. The auto's should have a slightly lower top speed.

Where are you going in such a hurry? You do realize that it takes quite awhile to get to that speed, and that the engine/car/suspension/chassis isn't to happy doin it? Not hatin on you. . . just curious. . . or maybe you're just curious too?

I don't see why top speed should be an issue with an economy car, I wouldn't be going 100+mph on the stock tires. I doubt they were made for that speed.

I thought we had H rated tires, which can handle up to 130mph. . .

My car topped at 120mph. The engine actually started to shut off. I have a picture on my cardomain site. It's the first pic.

I work for lockheed martin. I duct taped on some space shuttle rocket motors and my little xA ended up in the lower atmosphere in just under 2 minutes

well... that auto should have a lower top speed because of more parasitic drag from the tranny... but if you want to talk gear ratios the auto would have a higher top speed if it didnt have a governor and had more power due to the longer final gear (this is also how they acheive statistically better highway mpg).

still though, im not planning on ever going that fast- so it makes having the much shorter gears of the 5spd a much better choice! less moving parts + 1 extra gear for shorter ratios= FUN :D

Yeah. . . good point on the taller ratio. . .

And out of curiosity, as I don't own an auto, I wonder how it pans out. I know that there will be less whp, from losses, but like you said, there is a taller final gear. So thus, I wonder if top speed would be HP limited (or drag) or if it would be rev limited.

i would guess with as little whp our cars put out, its probably like you mentioned, the 5spd having a higher top speed- because its getting more power and is able to reach high rpms faster... and i doubt the auto would be able to make it to 120+ since it has taller gears (which would require even more power, but its already losing some).

solution: blitz superchargers for everyone!! :D

im paying off the last of my debt and getting the Blitz S/C. i think with that and a few other mods ive topped out the 0-60 range with bolt on's only. Im still too new to to major things, but i was hoping to get a higher mph and take it to a track eventually. ( no, not to think its fast, just to show its full potential )

Hmmm, I thought I read somewhere that the egg and the toaster were limited to 109 by a speed governor. I guess I read incorrectly.

That was probably for the auto. . . and I'm not sure if it is a governor, as aero-drag/power limited can often feel like a governor.

But personally, I know that a 5spd can reach over 109, and it seems to be redline limited.
