Default Anyone else amused by reaction of current owners to the new tC?

Deja Vu? Seems like a lot of the comments coming from the tC community are familiar.

Official 2011 Scion tC Thread (2nd gen)

A sampling:

- What do you guys think of the new look?? I don't like the interior at all
- This is a total let down in my pov
- Hhahahahahaha the back is TERRIBLE
- i actually like our tc's better in the way that it looks interior and exterior.
- Nothing can save the rear.
- I much prefer the current interior to the new one
- its official: the Scion brand is dead
- the only thing I requested for the new tC was that it looks uglier, with only a minimal upgrade in power. Looks like they listened.

I'm torn between laughing at the irony or being empathetic to the now 1gen tC owners. What do you think?

I'm empathetic to the tC owners, and all scion owners really. I was really hoping for something better. The scion brand overall has really been disappointing lately, and I doubt I'll be buying another car from them. A shame really...

While yes, it's kinda funny... Scion as a whole needs help.

Honestly I think Scionlife is far from Scion's average owner. As has been mentioned in other threads, contrary to popular belief, many Scion owners have nothing to do with Scionlife and are very likely polar opposites of many SL users.

Would it be nice if they'd get some input from SL people now and then? Ya, maybe...

Well according to the service manager at my local dealer, himself, as well as corporate does check in on Scion forums.

Who knows if he was just lying through his teeth, or if he was serious about it.

But like what ack said, the majority of Scion owners are not on Scion Life, or any Scion forum.

I'm sure they do check in to this forum and a few others. They'd be stupid not to. Just like reading comments on sites like Autoblog.

But you can't believe that they'd run their business based on what their reading. Get input? Ya... All decisions? No way.

No, I know that corporate and dealers do read SL, but you need to consider the masses... most of the people who own first gen xBs aren't us, but old people.

Despite the fact that we're a large community and more enthusiastic than most, we're still a minority in the big picture of car sales.

yea but we are still humans...I dont think any of us enjoy the look of the rear and the offset of the lines. I really wanna know who designed the tC.

It's a little bit too late for that, lol.
There's no going back and changing the design anymore.

Although what would be nice would be receiving a survey/input form in the mail that would be sent to all current owners.

Asking what they currently enjoy about the current models, and what they would like to see in new models.

If the median age of the average 1gen driver is 40+, then Scion isn't doing good on their marketing. I thought the whole point of the brand was to lower the age of Toyota owners. Shouldn't they be designing cars for the youger generation? I'm sure it boils down to # of total cars sold vs. buyer age, and total sales wins. Would it be so bad though if they sold less but to a predominately young crowd? Let the old people buy something with a Toyota badge.

I'm reminded of what everyone told me when the xB2 came out. Even though it has the same name, it's not made for people who already own Scions. Most would not buy another so soon anyway, and corporate would rather current owners move up to a more expensive Toyota or Lexus rather than another Scion anyway. The tC2 is probably made for people who don't own a tC, and the design changes probably centered around attracting the new market.

I'd love to see comments from the general auto community, outside of Scion owners to see what fresh eyes think.

Well, I saw the release at the university I go to. As the countdown finally came to a still, people gathered by the masses. When we all looked at the pictures, there was definitely a consensus on what was good vs bad. People were at an awe for the first couple of pictures but as we progressed to the pictures on the rear of the tC...lol this is when people's reaction quickly took a 180. Nobody liked the rear until we saw the five axis design.

People enjoyed the front of the standard tC and rear of the five axis tC.

People disgusted by the rear of the standard tC and the front of the five axis tC.

in my honest opinion, i love it. its all a matter of getting use to it and letting it grow on us. i was the same way about the nissan cube, and the new civics but just wait and see what the scion people do with this beast! i may not be the first to say that, but i'm excited for this to come out. i'll consider it.
