Default New Tail Lights for the Red Box

I'm considering getting some new tail lights (or covers) for my RS6 (aka, the Red Box) and would like to hear your opinions.

Here's a photo of my car with the stock tail lights:

Originally, I was considering the TYC LED tail lights from TRD Sparks, because I like the looks. However, there have been WAY to many failures with those tail lights. So, that put me off those.

Next I considered the Longo LED tail lights. I think the look absolutely fantastic on silver, black and whte xB2s, but I haven't seen any photos of what they look like on a red RS6. Besides, I kinda wanna keep the Red Box red.

So, I've narrowed my choices down to three options. These red LED tail lights from eBay for $133.99 + $27.95 shipping:

These, also from eBay for $220.99 + $25.00 for shipping.

And the tail light covers from Forjworks in candy red for $169.99:

All opinions welcome. And if you have some other tail lights you think would look awesome on a red RS6, please post some photos here.

Thanks,

There ok. I wouldn't choose them for your car. I prefer my tyc tails. I love em. I know some people don't like em. Should find something that has more contrast between the red of your car and the tail. Like a silver housing on a black housing I think would look sick.

I have the 2nd ones you listed on my BSP xB (in red also). I like them a lot, but I'd never seen the first ones you posted pretty nice! - I previously had the smoked ones (still have them). I think smoked would be best on red, white, silver, etc. Just not black. That's why I eventually got the red ones. I've been too preoccupied with a new house to put them up for sale. PM me if interested. They're just sitting in the garage...

Upgrade to 2011 tail lights (when they become available). I'm not to fond of ebay LED tail lights, all of them see way to dim for LEDs when I see them on people's rides of all makes/models. I dont know if it's because they use cheap leds or if they are not "positioned" correctly, but OEM leds are MUCH brighter than ebay leds tail lights.

I REALLY like the look of the TYC tail lights and think they'd look great on my red car. If not for all the reliability problems, I'd already have them. I plan to keep my car a LONG time. So, I'm really put of by something that seems bound to fail in about 12 months.

I'm actually fine with the way the stock all red tail lights look on my car - during the daytime. I like the way they blend in. I just wish they lit up more at night (instead of just the bottom part).

The Forjworks covers won't make them light up any more at night, but I like the stealth black-on-black look here:

Click the image to open in full size.

and thought a similar stealth red-on-red look might be cool on my car.

Get these they come with a 3 year warranty ;) and alot more reliable than Ebay tails, no offence. Besides if your placing the forjworks tail covers on, they will be candy red already?

I've seen smoked and tinted tail lights on a red RS6 and I didn't care for the look. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't really care for the black on red look that seems to be very popular these days. It's for this reason, that I purposely didn't go with black rims on my car. Again I know this is a popular look, just not for me.

I peeled the black vinyl off my A-pillars to let more red show. So, I'm reluctant to replace the stock red tailights with something smoked/tinted/black. Again it's just personal preference, but it's not the look I'm after.

The Rumion tails don't fit. They leave a big gap at the bottom.

That's an option I hadn't considered. I haven't seen the 2011 tail lights. Are you referring to stock 2011 tail lights, or optional ones. Can you post photos? Do you know if they will fit a 2009 correctly?

But hey just my .02 cents.

I assume those are the Longo tails, correct?

I REALLY like they way they look on your silver xB, and think they look great on black and white xBs as well. I'm not sure I'd like the daytime look on my red RS6. I've been looking for a photo of them on an RS6 for months and haven't ound anything. If anyone has a pic of the Longo tails on an RS6, PLEASE, OH PLEASE post them.

Are you suggesting the Forjworks covers OVER the Longo tails? I'd actually thought of that. It would give me the stealth red-on-red look during the day and more light at night. Basilcally give me the look I want both day and nioght, but that's a LOT of money to spend on tail lights.

OK, so I assume you mean these:

Not bad. Anyone have a photo of what they look like at night. I'm guessing the whole top part lights up red and the bottom part has an amber bulb for the turn signal and a clear bulb for back-up.

Anyone know if they will fit a 2009? The rear bumper profile looks different to me on the 2011. Also, I'm guessing I'll need to run wires to them for the back-up lights. Imagine, going from one back-up light to three.

BTW, is it just me or do ALL tail lights look good on silver cars?

Getting something that looks good on a red car seems much harder. Where are all the RS6 owners who have upgraded their tai lights? Come on guys, post some pics.

They look like they'll fit but so did the Rumion ones too. I guess we'll find out soon when someone on here does the conversion (I may do it at some point).

On my silver box, I have Longo tails and they look great with my theme. Personally, I think you should go with Forjworks' tail covers in red. I think they would look great in red and would help you keep a totally red theme. Plus, let's say one day you want to black them out: then you can just tint it. Go different by getting those. I like them a lot and would have considered them had I not already purchased my Longo tails.

I have the TYC tailights if you are interested; had them in my box for almost a year and never failed, also have the anzo smoked ones almost new, 2 rows of leds don't work maybe a bad weld or something, I think it's fixable though if you baked them open and have soldering skills, I'm in the PDX area pm'd me if you are interested
