Default Down Shifting

When I am going down hill my car will down shift for no real reason. Is this normal?

yes its normal. Thats one of the beauties about VVTI...wait, you drive an xB. Well, its normal in many situations. When you ride a mountain bike up a hill, you usually down shift to make it easier on your legs. Same concept, more or less.

It only downshifts if you hit the brakes enough. You should get to 4th gear and then let off and let your car roll, it uses no fuel until you tap the gas.
