I have heard that 20% tint over the already dark rear windows makes it 5% (limo) tint. is this correct? Ive seen 5% over the windows and its not too bad but its pretty dark. any suggestions?

I know the rear glass pieces come "pre-tinted" from the factory and the front glass is not tinted, yet there is a "tint" option in the accessories list. Does this just add tint to the driver and passenger windows, or what?

I got my tints as a dealer option...basically, what happened, was I picked up my box, and they told me the place to take it to if I wanted to get the front windows tinted to match the others...since it is technically illegal. I took the box to the tint place, told em what what I wanted, they called the dealership to authorize the job, and they put matching tint on the front windows. They didn't do anything to the others.

Here (Huntsville, AL) tint was legal at 20%, then made illegal, then legal at 30%, then made illegal again... Now I believe it's legal again and anything goes.

So, what IS the "tint" option for? Anyone know? If the car comes pre-tinted, it must refer to something else being tinted, like the front glass, right?

No, not ANYTHING goes in Alabama. The tint law in AL is 32% on ANY window on a CAR, on TRUCKS (which in clude an xB, bu tnot xA) is 32% on the front doors and anything on any window behind the b-pillar.

The tint option listed on the internet is for the 2 front doors only. Do not buy that! The film they install in port is "Digi-tint" and is absolute garbage and if you ever need repairs, the film will never match as no decent shops will carry it.

Not to mention - who in their right damn mind spends $150 to tint 2 front door windows?!?!? If I could get that kinda money I would have retired at 25. No shop in the country charges that much - only a car dealer could pull a stunt like that

(and if you thinks THAT'S to much, check on a tC or Camry tint job installed at port ... $495..... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! .. yeah... right.)

I can tell you that my girl ( Jennay ) paid $100 for the fronts done. I was quoted $235 for all tint done, but they wouldnt let me wait while it was being done.

Sooooo there is another place that is going to do the job in a couple of weeks. $245 far all windows. 20% in the rear ... limo up front. And, if its not too damn difficult, ill remove the back door 1/4s myself so they are tinted correctly.

The 1/4's are easy to remove (it's the same on almost ALL imports...)

take the door panel off, there are 2 10mm bolts under there, remove those. There is a small phillips head screw under the weather stripping on top of the door frame - take that out, with the window rolled down, pull out the weather stripping along the 1/4 glass side and then yoy can pull the metal guide away from the 1/4 glass - you can now remove the glass.

If you're going to do that, reassemble everything but lezve the 1/4's out, that way they can still tint the back roll-ups. You may as well leave the panels off since they can get the tint down in the door better.

For $245 (which is a little on the high side in most all areas.. but still "ok"), is that just a stright slam-bam no frills tint job, or are they going to shave the edges so there is no gap on the doors and all the other little "extras" ? If not, just ask them too - if they know how, it's no big deal.

(but for $245.. I'll take your 1/4's out personally and remove all your panels before tinting....)

I would take you up on that, but your all the way down south. That sucks.

I didnt know that taking out the rear 1/4s was such a big deal. I would want to re-install them before i left his shop, and not ride around with the 1/4s out for a couple of days.

no, it's NOT a big deal, that's just it. - it's 2 bolts and one screw. I can do it in about 30 seconds including taking the one screw out of the rear door panel before popping it off. A lot of customers freak out - they turn their heads for one minute and all the panels are off and 2 of their windows are yanked out of the car.
