Whine in reverse?
I have a stick shift. In reverse, the tranny makes a whining sound. It does not do this in any other gear. I find my self reversing very slow so that I don't hear the whine. Note that although I don't hear it while creeping, it does make noise at normal reverse speed (it's not like I'm trying to go fast in reverse).
Wondering if this is normal, or if I should have the dealer look at it.

Thanx, I kinda figured it was normal, but did not realize it was the way the gears were cut.
As a side note, my American cars do not do this unless you go way faster than you should in reverse.

What American cars to be specific because I've been in quite a few that whine at slow speeds as well, but RWD vehicles in general aren't as loud at low speeds because of the size and placement of the tranny.
All RWD. My 98 Mustang GT (5speed), my 75 Jeep v8 (3speed), my 69 firebird with an auto turbo 350 tranny don't.
Then again, if I were to go really fast, they probably would.
Good point about FWD vs RWD, that may be it.
