Female Newbie
Hi Guys and Gals!!!!
I brought a 05 Black Sand Pearl XB w/ MT back on Feb 28th, 2005 and I just love the damn cutie!
All stock right now...plan on pimping my ride whenever I get the flow of course! LOL!
I didn't like the look at first...but I felt like taking it for a test drive and I fell in love with it instantly. The power took a little getting used to ( I had a 2002 Honda Accord Coupe also w/ MT) but she keeps up very well in traffic and drives soooo nice...that is no longer an issue.
Anyhow...I spent almost the entire day at the dealership so by the time I left (around 8pm) I forgot that I was driving a new car and got on the highway rushing home doing about 75 mph or so.
I read the manual and it said that there really was no break in other than varying my speed and no hard breaking for the first 200 miles.
I commute 24 miles each way daily...98% highway and have gone on some short trips.... averaging about 65-75 mph. I am fast approaching 1000 miles and I am wondering if I had been doing any kind of damage to the engine.
I am also curious to know how some of the people here have complaints on their mpg. I have been getting great gas mileage (in my opinion) even at those speeds i mentioned (31-34mpg). How does it differ so much from car to car? Will my mpg change as I put more miles on it?

Welcome to the club. Pretty much anything you need to know about modding/pimpin your xB you can find on here.
I also have a BSP xB and I love it. Don't worry about your mileage. I know someone that put about 3,000 miles on an xA in the first month.
Your mpg varys depending on your driving style. When I push my xB I get around 28 mpg. When I go easy on it and steadily accelerate is when I see more of the 30+ mpg.
Like you said though, 98% highway driving. That's most likely why your getting such good gas milage, unless, of course, your in traffic.
Enjoy the site and check out the Tech section for info on how you can mod your box...

mpg should get slightly better with more miles, but near 1000, you shouldn't see much more change.
Doubtful you've done any damage to the engine as long as you have changed speeds somewhat, I have been told that it is good to not completely baby the engine at first, just no over revs.

we need a revision of that rule!
Anyway, welcome to the site. Your engine will be fine. Make sure to keep us up to date on all your mods!

Hi and welcome! Glad to see some females on the board who love to drive a sweet ride such as the Scion. I have posted some replies, but have not formally introduced myself.
My name is Tammie, my fiance and I bought our '05 TCM Xb on July 3, '04. We traded in my '96 Mitsubishi Spyder GST convertible for it and we are highly impressed with the $$$, gas mileage and headroom/space. It fits all 3 kids and 2 adults comfortably and I definitely can't complain about the stock stereo. No mods yet, just the spoiler, fog lights and 6 disc CD changer from the dealership. We are planning our wedding for next year and hope to be able to fix up the box afterwards. I wouldn't mind gettng new rims and some neon lights for the inside. Hey, I'm never too old to have a nice ride, moms shouldn't have to drive minivans.
See ya around!! :D
