I miss my heat shield/Manifold Cover... I trashed it when i installed the cold air intake back in march. lol. It looks like sh** with out it, since the brown color throws the whole engine bay off. I am going to order another one next week. This will also give others idea for their next mod.

Yea tue, but I am going back to stock for a while, until my turbo kit comes in. This is what I am instaling this weekend

I sold the injen intake. I'm glad I kept the stock intake parts. The heat shield/manifold cover is cheap and I like to keep the stock stuff just in case I want to switch up like I am doing now.

You guys engine bay looks clean enough to eat off of.

"2tCornot2tC" that strut bar looks really close to the password jdm engine cover..

I also noticed that the password engine cover snugs against the block, vs mines has a slight overhang..

The camry one looks exactly the same...

Just wish that stupid piece of black plastic wasn't $100+

mdiluxe how did it attach, just snaps onto the studs there? I ask since the PasswordJDM CF has those colored fasteners to bling it up a bit.

When you re-install your stock intake, leave the side snorkel thing off. You can definitely hear the engine sucking more air. I have been playing around with the intake this week. I made a SRI from same components as Wellesly did. Stock air box plus K&N filter, minus the snorkel performs better than my SRI does. I still have a bit more experimenting to do though.

The only thing I see limiting the stock intake is the rubber hose that connects from the intake manifold to the airbox. It flexes and if you can replace that piece with a hard pipe, remove the snorkel, get a better filter like you said and enlarge or port the airboxes snorkel you will see gains. I have tried both cold air and sri and theirs not much of difference between the two between throttle response. You can hear a difference, but you can't really feel it. Then injen intake did me well, but I plan to go boost soon. Until then I'm stock as engine wise, but I still have a few goodies... I will leave the snorkel out, and try a filter from hks just to try it since no one has it on here. I ordered it and should be here eventually.

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. I was also going to enlarge the snorkel hole.

How does it sound?

I have not pulled mine apart yet, but wouldn't that side 'snorkel' be sucking in some cooler air from outside the engine bay? It does looks like a smaller tube than the general CAI's but... just me thinking here... did someone at Scion just slap something on there, or did they actually plan that setup so it functions similar to all these aftermarket intakes?

I'm just looking at things I've dealt with on my xB1, the ridiculous amount of tubing from the AEM CAI, the simpler design of the Injen SRI, etc etc... *shrug*

Trust me guys, it makes a difference when you remove the snorkel. The Hole in the side of the airbox is around 3" diameter but it's kinda' square, not round. The snorkel drops down to 2" in diameter, maybe even less. The airbox is still sucking air from the corner away from all the engine's heat. I have seen no bad effects from removing the snorky.
There is way too much heat for a SRI to be functional IMO. Mine was too hot to touch with the engine running. The rubber tubing was cooler to the touch. Also I was using the small Spectre filter, it may have been choking the engine. Not enough room to use a bigger cone filter with the limited parts I had on hand. I went back to stock box minus the snorkel this evening. Sounds way better than the SRI did and the engine feels much stronger.
I am anxious to see some owner feedback on the Descendant CAI though..
Anyways, someone else pull the snorkel and tell me if I am on to something...or if I have over-medicated myself again!

Let me take a look tonight or tomorrow. I may pull the snorkel off just to see.
