Default DIY: CNCobb License Plate Relocation Kit

Mods Please Feel Free to Move This to DIY

The DIY for the CNCobb License Plate Relocation Kit

Tools Need: Phillips head screwdriver

Optional: Crescent wrench or plumbers wrench or other large gripping tool.

Step 1: Pop the hood and prop it up.

Step 2: Remove the Tow Hook Plate from the front bumper. I would recommend either a flat head screwdriver your finger nail.

Step 3: Pull the plastic stop from the hole in the bumper. I did this by wrapping tape around it to close off the end and pulling it through or you can simply bend them down and pull through.

Step 4: Place and screw in UHMW piece into the bumper. This should be able to be turned for the most part by 1 or 2 hands. Eventually if you want a snug fit you may want a crescent wrench, or plumbers wrench or some other large set of grips. I did mine by hand. Some people may choose to put lock tight in here; again I did not however it is an option.

Step 5: Use the four flat, Philips head screws to mount the Aluminum plate to the UMW piece. Be sure to have this where the larger parts of the holes are facing toward you.

Step 6: Step back and see if this is close enough to the bumper for your preferred fitment. If not remove the plate and repeat Step 3 and 4 until you are satisfied.

Step 7: Take the largest screw and washer and put them together. You will screw this into the back of the UHMW piece from inside the engine bay. This will secure if from moving.

Step 8: Use the smaller 2 screws with round heads to screw your license plate to the aluminum piece.

Step 9: Take pictures and send them to your friends and upload them to Scion Life!

Now how flush can the plate be with this mount kit? More than what was done in this DIY? Would there be any risk stripping threads going for less clearance?

This is how flush I have it, that is a dime so it if very close how obliviously there will be no rubbing:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/traviscobb/5791895666/I would say there is likely between 5-7 threads left s you can surly get closer. I would say there isn't a risk of stripping them as it would bottom down out and I highly doubt it will turn after that!

Looks good. I'd get it if I needed a front plate.

Hey Josh,

If you look closely at OP ogi1der's pics ▲▲ LOOK UP! ▲▲ above, you can see that the diameter of the UHMW piece is only little bit bigger than your Tow Hook mount hole.

His last Visit to this Thread was over 5 years ago so it is Highly Doubtful he is going to read your post here. ▲▲ LOOK UP! 2 posts above yours. Your will see 2 Links.
Try Contacting him there or PM him.

He may not still be in business. Elvis has left the Building.
