I have one small chip but it's low and near the black dots so it's not too bad.

I have multiple chips and an 8 inch crack. My car is only 4 mo. old! The windshield is getting replaced monday. Anyone know what the good aftermarket brand names are? I did some quick googles and mostly saw LOF, PPG, Carlite, and some others. Any tips?

It seems to me that scion windshields are a bit on the delicate/fragile side and cant take much abuse. *Just my personal oppinion, so all you flamers dont even start.*

May I ask what non scion windshield you had? I am still doing a bit of research. But I think I will end up going OEM through my insurance w. deductible. I just cringe at the thought of having my insurance pay for anything. I feel like its gonna come back to bite me when its time for policy renewal.

Bug shield might not help that much since the rock have more force than a bug.
I doing my best to stay away from trucks. But once in a while I have no choice.
I just hate that freaking ....Tink noice every time a rock bounces on the glass.

I really don't want to change the glass, but eventually I might.
In Florida if you have Comprehensive insurance you don't pay anything

I just don't want to put a claim.....yet.

By the way, most dealers don't use OEM windshields, they don't even due the
install them self. They will be calling the same guy you'll be calling!!!!

I am aware that dealers dont service their own windshields, but I thought they only sell OEM parts. If the windshield isnt OEM, what are they charging $1100 (not including installation) for? Aftermarket tC windshields are around $150.

No chips in 10K miles. Do have a bug deflector. I do have a stone chip just above the windshield.

Welcome to the DEALER WORLD!!
The only difference between OEM & the Aftermarket is that it won't say toyota on it.
I don't even know if it says that now.

Default windsheild

It's only been 8 months and I'm on my second windsheild. And I had to wait 3weeks for a windsheild from Toyota.

Actually OEM test their glass specifically for that car model, and they take into account safety factors related to crash and the strength of the glass supporting the roof from caving in during a rollover. So basically there is some math that goes into OEM.

Aftermarkets dont do any test because they are not car model specific, however they still have to comply with american glass standards. But its not car specific.

Thats not to say the aftermarkets couldnt be as good. I guess you just have to try it and find out.

Had one 10 inch crack after a rock hit it, a few weeks later it was about 16 inches(!) Replaced the windshield shortly after that.

I don't this it's a quality issue as much as it is the upright windsheild is less likely to harmlessly deflect an object than a normal sloped windshield would.

I have 2 big chips and long crack in the middle on the driver's side and quite a few chips on the passenger side due to my commute on 680.
