Default Adding a Pearl Coat over OEM paint??

Anyone know if it's possible to add a Pearl Coat.....say , a light blue/purpleish over the Silver...I'm sure it would require removing the clear coat if its even possible...

I recently parked the car under one of those blue xenon-ish street lights and the silver looked insane with that tint to it....I want it to look like that in daylight...anyone know if this is possible??

I doubt any reputable body-shop is going to undertake that kind of project. It would come out like ___!

doesn't the pearl have to go under the color spray?

only guessing here, but don't they do pearls over carbon fiber? Seems like they could color sand the clear, then do the pearl and a new clear.

You can totally have a pearl mixed in with a clear coat.

Find a shop that will spray a better, more durable clear coat
on your whole car, and make sure they can add a pearl to it.

I was thinking about doing that for my box, since the BOP
is known to be fragile paint.

I'm a painter

You can pearl your car, it's easy any shop will that dose paint will do it, it's very simple and easy for them =) just gotta wet sand a lil and then either spray the pearl and clear or just spray them togther.

yes you can

Here is our cougar back in 01 w/ pearl over the stock silver

I used PPG fine blue pearl 4 coats and 1 coat of purple pearl. The pearl was mixed w/ dbc500 clear base coat and then the clear was sprayed afterwards. Spraying the pearl in a clear base coat shows the coverage much better as it is sprayed and prevents the pearl coats from being uneven.

More pics of the paint

Why does that bottom pic remind me of the Mach5?

Anyhow, the paint looks nice!

it may. The nice thing about doing a pearl over a base is the depth it adds. Any tri coat color will appear deeper than a standard base/clear

and with doing pearls or kandys you can do test panels and see what it's gonna look like with more coats. we did probally 20 samples before we did the silver paint on the cougar back in 01. That color really looked great but I fell in love w/ sunburst orange metallic and redid the car in 02 and then again in 04

yeah it should be an easy job just take the lights out, hood and bumpers off, handles out, and mask off the car and scuff and spray.
