So guys I recently got into the scion scene. My uncle passed away and I acquired his '06 Scion xA. I'm a big time street race fan but to honest am more of an American muscle guy, and was wondering what you could do to this little thing performance wise. I've done a little research and found some good parts but I was hoping some one could point me to some nice builds. Also should mention Love this forum. Real professional easy to use. First good Scion forum I've found yet.
the xA isn't meant for performance, it's pro is in good gas mileage.
if you want a fun drive, invest in suspension such as coilovers like racelands and a rear sway bar. take out the spare tire and such in the back and it will feel light as a feather.
Thanks. Atm I have K&N cold air on it. Well that's what he put on it. After doing some research I see they really aren't built for racing but there are a few out there that have been turned into monsters.
First off, I don't condone street racing. I do however do the accasional WOT up to speed. Secondly, I was in the same boat you are coming from monsterous V8's owning 3 T/A's with the works. I sold the last one since the wife and I found out we were pregnant but I like to tinker and make things go faster so I inherited her XA to work on. I never really cared for it since it was so small and a 4 banger but after getting to know it, it is actually kindy zippy. By no means is it fast but is kinda fun as is so I am in the process of making it funner.
This is what I have done since recently being where you are. The K&N cai, tokico blue struts, tanabe s tech springs, poly front sway bushings lower a arm bushings, rear trailing arm bushings, front strut mounts, upper rear suspension bushings (thread can be found on this forum), speed daddy ebay header, and in the process of swaping the throttle body for the 1zz. Future plans are trd rear sway bar, axle back exhaust, and 3 piece pulley set from NST. All poly bushings are listed under the XB for same years, will find better deals on ebay for them. Hope this helps, have fun
any suspension mod is a definite must. you can get raceland coils for the xa for about 400, which is cheaper than spring and shock combo. engine mods i've done it and if i could go back in time, i would not and invest in something else. i'm from california, intake and headers aren't legal so i have to find a shop to pass my smog whenever i have to do it. if you just want your exhaust to sound louder and look like a race car, just get an universal muffler for 25 bucks, take it to the shop and have them weld it to your OEM exhaust.
I installed only suspension mods on my `04 in the first year of ownership, lowering sport springs, tower strut bar, wheel spacers, aftermarket rims (Drag DR-16) staying with 15" but most impressive improvement was when I installed the rear swaybar.... handles like its on rails and is VERY fun to drive on winding roads/corners...looking to change out all the bushings like Taman86 did.. As for engine ?? its a 90 HP four cyl.. fuel economy for sure but it is zippy 4sho..
Oh, and welcome to Scion Life!!
I do legal street races in a nearby city. We section off old unused streets and alleys and have full permission from the city
well then that is bad ___!!! there is a town up north here in az that do city sactioned drag races down main street once a year. wish they would do that here, but my town is run by mormon's and it would be unsafe, and people can get hurt yadda yadda. i wish we had a track both road and drag here
my advise to you is save do full exhaust b/c thatll put you at about 115-120whp since thats what im at right now. after that build the engine. then boost it. if u have questions ask Ptuning, they know their ____ really really well
