What you will find is a used one with even 5000 miles will go for near what a NEW one will cost.

For instance, when I was looking, I found a stock used one that I knew was rear ended and they fixed it. The dealer still wanted 13,800. I paid 14,500 for a NEW one with fog lamps and floor mats and 18 miles on it.

Which would you buy? Pretty simple question, huh?

Here in Sacramento, dealers are asking around $17,888 for used. I thought this was odd. Went to one dealership and asked the salesman why the used are more than the new. His reply was "Oh, we are not the only dealership that does that? I guess we do it because we can. New ones are gone too fast and that is all that is left. You can pay more for a used and get one now or you can pay less and get one later." Instead I went to another dealership. They had a used one for $17,888. I asked the same question. He said he didn't know but he has a new one for less. I bought that one.

There's no "Pure Pricing" when it comes to used cars. All the same old games are played. I'd imagine they expect to come down from that "asking" price during negotiations.

With the differences being under a couple of grand, it doesn't seem worth it to me. These cars aren't losing a ton when you drive them off the lot, contrary to the usual new car depreciation stories. And they aren't that hard to find new, are they? I wouldn't take the word of a used car salesman on that...

What's KBB say?

I would'nt pay more than $10,500.00 for a used one. But getting the dealer to come down might be kinda tuff considering the popularity of the xB. The dealer knows some idiot will come along eventually and pay over the stock new price! I hate car salesmen, they are the scum of the earth!! Later! :D

There's a 2005 xb with 1000 miles for about 13,800 at the dealer near me. Not a bad price if you ask me but i'd rather buy new for not much more.

before i got my rs2.0 I was looking at a blue 04 with xm, intake, and strut bar, alloys, 16k mileage asking price of 18.5. She had a cracked windshield and stone chips all over the hood. By law the windshield had to be replaced, and I was tring to get them to repaint the hood and I wanted to get it for 14k, well I got em down to 14.5 then he said thats all he could do and pretty much blew me off, so i drove down the street and bought a new one!

I bought a "used" xB with 5500 miles on it on Saturday. They had it priced at 17,500 with alloy rims, floor mats and the rear bumper applique. I priced it out on the Scion website new and it came out to $15,888. I took the printout in with me and told them no deal unless they could match the price. Amazingly they dropped 2 grand off the price!

Pays to do your research. I came in with a huge stack of papers

Oh yeah, KBB came in at about 16,500 or so for the used one. So wierd.

i saw a used xB all scratched listed for 22k at toyota dealership, it had a spoiler, lowered i think, and alloys.

i asked my buddy that works there why it was so high and he said people actually pay that, they dont know that its cheaper new. they just come in wanting a used car and see it on the used lot and dont even bother to check out the new lot, because they didnt plan on buying something new.

Dealer by me did the same thing. They had the RS1. It had been hit on the front passenger side.... dent in the driver's door.... bone stock too. It was also missing the cover where the fog light should go from where it had been hit. They wanted 17K for it I started laughing and the guy is like.... "No, we'll sell it!" Yeah... good luck with that one

Except Scion sales people. They don't jack you around. The finance guy at my dealer kept trying to sell me extras. I said no to all.

OH YEA!! The first Scion dealership I went to tried to sell me a stock new xB for like $16000 (after I figured out there B.S. payment plan they showed me instead of the price) After I told them "to stick that payment plan up their *ss" (told you I hate car salesmen) they came back with the right price but were still trying to stick it to me on the dealer fees. Reeeeally long story short, I bought from another dealer who sold me the car at the right price (with the dealer fees included in the $14300 like it should be) and none of the crap! It's kinda funny, while buying my Scion, I had both the worst and the best experience I've ever had buying a car. Later! :D
