Default Sticky Shifting / Shifter?

Hello all. I did a search for this, but didn't really get the results I was expecting.

Not sure if it's because I'm used to driving my RSX-S or Hondas in general, but does anyone else feel that the tC shifter is a bit clunky / sticky when shifting? ie. doesn't allow for very fast shifting?

My cousin just got his tC in and I took it for a spin last night. It almost was as if, when putting the car in a gear, that there was some sort of, I dunno, membrane that sucked the gear into place, instead of the usual slack / notch I get. Don't know how to explain it really, just seems pretty cumbersome and not really allowing for the fast spirited shifting I expected. Almost sticky / rubbery. Someone I talked to (Toyota tech) said that the factory had a few quirky ones that didn't come with any tranny fluid, but that were the case then the tranny probably would have ripped to shreds by now. He also said I was probably just used to driving my car, but then again, his old T-100 truck had a better feeling gearbox.

Please don't take this as a flame, I love the car, it's a great package and fun, was just curious if anyone else thought the way that I do.

I got that too in my 06. The shifter motion feels kind of sticky and thick. It moves just fine, and when I am shifting I don't feel like anything is wrong, but the shifter feels very tight. This is very noticeable when it is sitting in the neutral position, because I can't slap the shifter left-to-right that easily.

Thanks for the comment. Is there a new gearbox in 06 models? I'm assuming my cousin's is an 06 since he had to wait about 6 weeks for it.

Anyone else?

Mine also has this heavy motion. I thought it was common on all of them? Mine is a late model '05.

I don't mind it at all, especially when I am shifting. The only thing I find unusual is when it is in neutral, compared to other shifters I've felt before (non-tC ones), it takes a lot more effort to move it from left to right.

Yea its far from any honda manual tranny. Honda manual trannies are usually alot smoother and much more quite. When we test drove this car it was loud as hell going into gear compared to other manual cars ive ridden in. Set the headunit to "type xA" and turn up the volume and the noisy tranny will go away =D

Cool, drove it again and it's more of the side to side resistance than actual shifting from gear to gear. You all are right, just takes a bit of getting used to. Again, awesome car, very impressed for the $.

mine shifts fine. i guess there could be a different between a 23k rsx and a 16k tC if you really break it down.

i noticed when i shift from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd and from 4th to 5th (clutch fully down), it feels very rough like there are bumps inside the gearbox that im sliding through. its like there is a lot of resistance and it makes a rumbling sound too like rrRRRR. thats not grinding gears is it? this is my first stick and i always imagined grinding gears to be louder. the only gear that i can go into smoothly is 4th.
