Default Dealer Carelessness (Accessories)....

I love the fact that i was able to get as many dealer installed options as I wanted to, all worked into my financing (and warranteed). I didn't go nuts with it, but I picked up the spoiler, bumper app, CAI, and 7 spoke alloys...

Washing my wheels the other day, I notice that the corners of the lugnuts are starting to show rust...upon further inspection, my conclusion was they removed the finish from the nut corners. Most likely with their air gun. Now I'm ____ed because I paid good money for those wheels and they carelessly put them on. (btw, I got my '05 in july and have not removed the wheels).

This should be covered under warrantee so I can get new ones (and put them on myself), but the point of this post is for the dealerships....

If you're not willing to back up expensive accessories with quality installs, don't particupate in the accesory program. Half-assed jobs don't go un-noticed.

Yes I always love the gold old "air" gun when installing wheels Give me a torque wrench any day. That does suck about the removing of the finish on the lug nuts. Hope you get it taken care of.

The dealer damaged the finish on the lug nuts, causing them to rust, it was not your fault, and not the fault of Scion.

The dealer (not you or Scion) should cover the damage during installation.

(It is possible, however, that the lug nuts were not top quality, and had an inferior plating. I've had lug nuts who's plating came off easily, and lug nuts that were nearly impossible to damage. That's still the dealer's problem, and if they wish they can take it up with the supplier of the lug nuts they used, after the dealer replaces them...)

Tomas,

Your absolutely right. It is not so much a problem with Scion as it is with the dealership itself. Funny thing was I received a phone call from Scion's headquarters a few weeks back and they asked me how I felt about the quality of my purchase, dealer and ease of getting the vehicle. I said pretty much good things, and then this came up after the fact (naturally).

I placed this post in the Dear Scion category because if they are genuinely concerned with my purchase, they should be concerned with the quality of work that goes on in between me, and Scion.....and thats the dealer.

This is not uncommon with the lugnuts used with the 7 spoke alloys, I'm having the same problem, the dealership is the only place the wheels have been touched for rotating and such.... Talked to a friend who works and the dealership, he says they have replaced a couple sets of lugnuts under warranty for the same problem..... I say talk to the dealer, make sure they know that they are the only ones who have touched the wheels/lugnuts.... Hope you get this fixed,I know I plan to.

I had the same problem...only I supplied the lugs, wheels, and tires. I just had the dealer put them on for me. Mine started rusting after the first rain they saw. I can't blame the dealer in my situation. I just cleaned the rust off mine, dried them and then applied clear nail polish over the areas that were proned to rust. Never rusted again! It is going to be hard to get them to do anything about it in your case...it's going to happen sooner or later, you know?

I've seen all matter of lug nuts rust...unfortunatly it's the life of a lug nut.

I'd installed TRD wheels and had the lug nuts rust in 2 weeks.

It's not the Impact gun thats causing your lugs to rust, it's the fact that you've got exposed steel. ANY wrench will cause some sort of damage to a lug.

You might be able to get your dealer to replace them (I know we have) but you might not.

Definatly bring the issue but to Scion because the more feedback they have from customers, the faster they might/will act.

do NOT get me started on the dealer!!

They didn't do much right- I had to put the rear bumber applique on myself, the mats in myself (no biggie, but for the $$ it should have been done), the tail lights were not tightened down, the shift **** was loose, the radio didn't even work, they scratched the dash AND the paint on the rocker panels (they fixed after quite a show-down), and they put the wrong wheel covers on (I'm STILL waiting for the correct ones after 3 months). I am so disgusted that I will not even go back for an oil change- I'm scared they'll mess that up as well.

A while ago i went in so they could do an alignment for me. THATS IT, just an alignment. They called me 2 hours later saying that i needed two new front rims. i tell them i dont want it. i go pick up my car and pay, then drive off. i still noticed a shaking vibration in my wheels. i returned and to find out THEY CHARGED ME BUT THE DIDNT EVEN DO THE FOCKEN ALIGNMENT!! Isnt that focked up? i was f-ing ____ed! so i tell them to refund my money and the didnt. the PIG manager there said that Toyota would send me a check. 11 months and 6 days later...... still waiting.. IF Scion doesnt hire some decent professionals to do the service work correctly, then i might as well trade it in.. I have always liked Nissan!

It's too bad that some dealers allow things to get to that stage. I hate to suggest it but there's always lexus dealers.

If you were in my area I'd suggest coming to see me at Scion of Des Moines. It's nice to help change the perspective everone has about dealerships.

I hope your future visits yield you better service in your area.

It doesn't have to happen sooner or later. If the lugs are treated properly they should last for many years without rusting. I've had lugs that were 10 years + old and they never started to rust. I say have them replaced as many times as needed to get a good set. Make them use those nylon inserts on their lug wrenches if need be.
