So looking at the Helix tails in red/clear and like the smoked ones they have 4 bulb locations... What does the extra one do? Is it another turn signal bulb or just blank? Would it be possible to mount strobes in the 4th location? Anyone try modding a set of these yet?
Ahhh, OK. Thanks for the info. I wonder how much room there is to mount a strobe behind the chrome bulb cover thingie... guess I'll just have to buy some and find out Got strobes in my headlights so it would be cool to have em all around...
And should be PLENTY of room for a typical Sho-me or
Whalen strobe bulb with the 1" base.
The issue is really...have you seen the back of the tails?
The way they are powered is that one main bulb with all the
wiring for all the other bulbs plugs into a socket. The socket
has extra tabs that link to the other bulbs through a flexable
(flat plastic) circuit board.
So if we drill out that 1" hole in order to put our strobes behind
the reflector, we first have to make sure we don't cut any
traces on that flexi board.
I've not taken measurements yet, and even if it would cut
right through the traces, I'd figure out a way to jumper around
the new hole and not worry about it.
That may be a bit advanced for someone with limited
soldering/electronics skills to do on a $175 pair of tail lights.
I've got other projects that are taking my attention right now,
so I hav neither the time nor the money right now to pull this off.
If you do it, please post photos so I know what I'm in for!
