Default So I finally got my xB but something unexpected happened...

so i bought my xB from a local houston dealership... but had to go to another dealership to get the car. However, on the way back to my local dealership (about 20 miles away) the car nearly died on me. I pull into the dealership and the car almost died. I don't know what to think... but the dealer is going to change the battery and watch the alternator.

should I be weary of anything? lemon? Oh, and there are a lot of swirl marks on my black xB... the dealer said that they were going to buff it out. should i be worried? What would you do in my case?

So that was weird... haha... but i did get a great deal on my sunroof!! :D

Will pick it up in 48 hours... woo hoo!!

As for the swirl marks, I know its common among the darker colored scions so, I guess, no worries there.

As for the engine nearly dying, hell yeah I would worry. Your buying a brand new car. I dont know about you but that thing should run purrrrrfect if Im gonna drop the cash on it. :?

How much did you pay for your sunroof man? I want to get one and I heard they're around $1200. Sunroof sure must be a nice addition to the XB. That's a must for me.

This is non technical answer. I wouldn't take it. The first xB my dealer brought out for me had a rattle in the door when the stereo played and also around 20 miles on it. I was like no way. I asked if they had been using this one for test drives and they informed me that perhaps it had been, but only a few. "A few" in dealer lingo means "yup, all the ____ing time". So I had them prep up another one with 1 mile on it. How many miles did it have on it when you got it? People drive these things like there at Daytona when on test drives. What's the point of breaking in your engine if 20 or 30 folks before you red lined it around the block a few times. The dealers aren't gonna do ____. There trying to sell a car. My dealer had three in my color and like 18 on the lot so I guess I had the luxury of being a primadonna about the whole thing. I'm sure that if there is some soft of wait involved for another in your flavor then that would suck, but it might be worth it. Anyway, this is simply an emotional answer to your question and someone with more knowledge on these things might say I'm leading you to think silly about this.

I have a black XB and it has a lot of swirl marks. I think all the dark colors have them. I hope they fix the stalling problem for you though.

you won't believe it if I told you...

dealer installed with a lifetime warranty... it has a one-touch open/close/tilt... for $800 installed. I had to bargain it for a few hours... but apparently they gave it to me at a little less than cost.

Default Thanks for all your input...

the car had 17 miles on it when I picked it up. I don't think there is another black one out there... and as long as it's covered under warranty... I think I'll be ok.

I know that people may have ragged on it... but I think at the end of the day... it'll all be the same. I can't wait anymore really.. I traded in my car already... so I have nothing to drive

I think it'll be ok... thanks guys/gals

I'd be leary about the car dying.

As for the swirls, do some research here www.autopia.org - don't let the dealer touch the swirls.

Hope you bought the extended warranty... you may need it down the line...

Dark cars are notorious for developing swirl marks. Zaino has a product called "Z5" that will mask them. You build it up in coats (1 to 3) til the marks disappear. There is a Zaino guy in Dallas. Here's the link:
http://www.zainomobiledetail.com/intro.html

Or you can buy the products and do it yourself:

Zaino has extensive instructions on their web site. They recommends hand application with their cotton applicator or a regular cotton cloth. No heavy rubbing required (though a thorough cleaning before waxing is recommended). After the wax dries, light buffing with a thick, 100% cotton towel, mainly just to take off the dried wax. For swirl marks, sever coats of wax are recommended.

Worked well our black cherry. Only had one small swirl area where someone might have rubbed against the car. After the zaino treatment it isn't noticeable. But be prepared to spend a couple of hours your box. This is not a simple wax on, wax off process. This is a multi-step procedure. But especially if you have a dark car, the results are well worth the effort.

$800.00 dealer installed? That is an awesome price! What's the deal with such a big a$$ difference in east coast to west coast cost for the sunroof?

Whoa.....!

Default Thanks eveyone...

Well, i picked it up finally... and even though I really like my box... the sunroof looks cool... but the interior padding could've been better. They gave me the Seqouia sunroof, rather than the camry b/c it looked better... and it was free.

Those swirls marks are killing me... I took off the xB emblem... and apparently this paint scratches very easily. Thanks for the Zaino info, I think I might just take it to my detailer and let him do it. I'll see...thanks again folks!

Default Hey gang...thanks for following up

No, the car hasn't died since I got it... if it did, I would request a FULL refund!

However, the car has mad swirlmarks on there that the dealer promised to take care of. I'm really ____ed off about that and don't know if I can have them pay for my detail job. I really don't want to leave the car with them again... any suggestions? I was thinking maybe of complaining to scion corporate?
