Default Couldn't take another moment of the CLEAR TAILS!!!

Well I have only had the xb for almost 2wks now, and i had absolutely had it, when looking at the hideous all clear tailights, they reminded me of something that was in style over 5+ years ago. And since i am not a fan with altezza style tailights, or whatever they want to call the rocketship lights these days, i decided to coat them in the transparent red and keep the reverse lights clear. I'm sure there is alot of you out there with this done, but not too many pics, so here they are:

ya i kno, i've painted lights before for other people, they stay in good shape if u have them cleared by a body shop (which is what im doing next weekend) they seem to stay after that. I did clear them with glosscoat alerady, but i dont think that is enough. Hopefully someone will come out with REAL lights similiar to this, so we dont have to take the risk of making them.

I guess I am just not into the 80s style taillights....but if you like 'em then why not do it?

Personally, I think the clears on the Scion look great. BUT, I am a huge fan of Red/Clear tails... So my vote goes for the paint... now... I don't know If I'm going to take a crack at painting mine any time soon, though...

Looks excellent!

I didnt have any problems keeping it smooth suprisingly, i was able to do a nice even coat, but this isnt the first time i have painted lights also. I am taking them to the body shop on friday to have a nice few coats of clear sprayed on them. I did use a glosscoat on the transparent red, however, it doesnt have the exact shine or durabilty i want.

If you do choose to paint them, definetely do several coats of clear with a nice light wet sand in between to help work out any bumps or orange peel. And definetely if you can, have them cleared for durability and to prevent any fading. If you want i can post up some pics of the process, as i documented it.

Looks good.
What color do your turns show up now?
I guess if you put clear bulbs in the turns they would show up red.
But what does it show with the amber bulb with thte red lense?

even with the amber bulbs in there, it still shows up red, i was thinking it might come out a bit orange, but it doesnt....it blinks red.

Looks good. I think the clear lights look good on the lighter colors, but awful on the dark shades. This is a nice alternative.

I just installed the smoked overlays from bluebatmobile.com on my sidemarkers and tails. it looks really good with the Camo. I'll post pics up soon. I bet you could cut his red overlays to do this look with, if you didn't want to paint. He might even customize them for you...

Yeah, I'm lovin' those rims too...

thanks, have you tried getting them clear coated, to see if it lasts? I've done it in the past with other lights, and it seems to not fade anymore.

Thanks for the compliment, ya i do agree with you, i think the clear lights do compliment the lighter cars, but on mine it just wasnt cutting it, it became the focal point on the car, black car bright white lights, you couldnt even look past it and see the overall shape. ya i did think about buying the overlays, but i decided to paint instead (much more dangerous )
